So my brother shows up for Easter dinner with this, the place he works for was getting rid of it and he thought I could use it. Tektronix 2246. To be honest, I've never used one before, and to be more honest, I don't even know WHAT they're used for. But people sure seem to splooge over them here.

I was pretty jazzed, then saw these stickers on top. Looks like it's been inspected and rejected 3 times. Channel 2 burned, 4231 Perm o/s?

Any idea if it can be fixed? Pricey? I know I have the Fromm oscilloscope dvd somewhere, so I can watch that to decide if I'd keep or sell it. Looks like they sell used from $400 to $700 from google-ing it.

Thanks
Marc

If you use 10x probes, you won't need the >1V range on channel 2 anyway.

Bad channel 2 really only affects you if you want to do X/Y mode, since it uses 1&2 as X&Y. For all other stuff, you can just use channels 1/3/4.

lol...Okaaayy...in layman's terms that sounds like it could still be useful.

That's a nice scope... especially for free. Even ionly one trace worked it would be a nice addition to your tool arsenal. There are lots of wen sites now-a-days that explain their use... and I think there will likely even be videos on youtube and such.

Free is my favorite number. :D It looks like just channel 2 is bad. Companies like the one I work for will dispose of test equipment only if the repairs cost more than the replacement cost of the unit. But you might be able to find some place that could fix it for not a whole lot of $. Still, 3 out of 4 channels ain't bad! Now you have to find some decent scope probes to go with it.

The first thing to do would be to get a probe (test lead) if it did not come with one. The second thing to do would be to hook the probe to the RCA out on your stereo and watch the pretty picture. The third thing to do is have a party so everyone can watch your new scope dancing with the music.
