Got a DKjr converted to Playchoice and have questions

So I picked this up recently and I am still assessing what I have and what I want to do with it. It is a single monitor board, and that is about all I know.

I want to know what I would need to turn this thing back to a DK Jr. (hardware and electronics not art)

Did the conversion use with the original harness + a supplemental? Cause that is what it looks like to me:

Also it looks like a piece of the mechanism that holds in the bezel is missing?

That is it for my questions for now.

Not sure what you are asking. You need a different harness, period. Even if it was a conversion harness that was installed, you won't have all the corresponding wiring. Get a DK3 harness and you're good.

Sorry for the poorly worded question. I know nothing about PC conversion kits or DK Jr.s My DK was the version with 5 million connectors with no card edge connectors.

I was thinking that maybe on of the two card edge connectors corresponded to the original DK Jr harness, The cabinet also has an adapter for the original video cable that looks just like the ribbon cable on my DK cabaret. I was just hoping I could plug in a DK jr board. :(

Also, how does the metal bar hold in the bezel? It looks like mine is missing a bracket on the bezel side. Look at the photo above.

Phet right now I am torn as to what I should do with this cabinet. I feel like I should convert it back, but I am not a big DK Jr fan, and maybe I would like it better left as a Playchoice. What would you do?

I might just get is working 100% and see how much I play it as a Playchoice.

By conversion harness, I meant the type that plug into those little connectors in your DK. If you have the 36 and 44 pin edge connectors, that's a straight up Vs/ Playchoice harness. You cannot plug a DKjr board into it. I'd convert it back to DKjr if it was mine. In fact I am doing that same thing right now. It also depends how far you are going to take it. If you are just gonna change the wiring and plug a board in without restoring the cabinet with art, etc, what's the point? Just jammatize it and throw in a 60 in 1 if that's the case. For me, restoring means restoring everything.

A fully restored DKjr cabinet is a sight to behold.

A beat up DKjr cab with vs. art and the wrong marquee that just happens to play DKjr is a suck to behold.

You really think I would leave that cabinet looking like the turd it is now??? I am hurt! I was just talking about getting it working and seeing if I like the PC board. If I liked it more than DK Jr. I would restore it as a Playchoice, if I liked Jr better I would restore it as a Junior. I really like the look of a Junior over the Playchoice, but I think I might actually like to play the PC better. If it were a Popeye, DK3, DK, R-Type I wouldn't even consider keeping it as a Playchoice.

Well, I had a DK painted black that I used as my playchoice for 4 years until I finally restored an actual Single Monitor PC-10 in the proper cabinet. There is no comparison. You will learn to hate and feel guilty about that conversion if you go thru with it.

Thanks Phet, You are probably right, it should be a Junior even if I don't like the game as much.

Wow that's NICE Phetishboy!

Tighe, funny how what you have is what I'm trying to achieve. It's 100x harder for me to find a playchoice cab around my parts. Plus the Cab I have had already been gutted.

Good luck on the restore!

But if you DID go thru with the PC-10 conversion, you could use a Vs. panel and my sweet custom Instruction sticker:
