Got a chance at a DK with sound issues, need advice...

Got an opportunity to grab a nice looking and working DK for $300. Sight unseen but the pictures look really nice. Seller is telling me the only issue it has is that after a few minutes of play, the sound starts to crackle, and then goes out completely. I'm thinking a simple cap job on the aidio PCB would fix this? Any ideas?

Also curious (if I do get this) what would be a good way to make this a double DK (DK & DK Jr.).

Thoughts?

Got him down to $250. Couldnt pass that up. Paid for it and leaving now to pick it up. Hope its worth it. Heres the pics I have so far...

5 hours and a 300 mile round trip later, and an hour or two of "tweaking" once I got it home, I have a fully working DK. Only sound issue I could find was a cut wire that was disconnected. Hooked it back up and played it for an hour without any issues, gotta love it.

Scuffed it up a little in the car (this thing fits snug in my Saturn), luckily the seller had a bottle of touch up paint to go with it, in a snapple bottle no less. I wonder if its still any good? Ill work on that tomorrow.

Check out the first photo. This was the cut/loose wire I found and the connector it goes into. Just spliced it in and I got sound. Notice the monitor wires wrapped in duct tape (no wire nuts either) I took care of that also. 2nd photo shows it running on a switcher. This thing was amped up at 5.9v, so I dialed it down to 5.0v. Missing the filter PCB, oh well.

CP needed some tweaking but works flawlessly now. Monitor looks great. Only issues are it needs a marquee lamp (original one is up for grabs if anyone wants it), and the monitor is missing the top mounting bracket. Ill fancy something up for that. There is a very (and I mean VERY) faint background noise in the speaker, sounds like the jumping noise, but I only notice it if I put my ear to the speaker, so I'm not worried about it.

All in all a pretty good road trip for this one.
