Gosh Darnit, I Love Asteroids Deluxe

Anyone prefer the original bezel to the anti-glare kit? I have always wondered how the original set-up played. I really like the anti-glare kit, but I have never played it the other way. Can anyone who has played both weigh in for me?

I purchased the anti-glare kit because I heard some people raving about it. It is supposed to make the audio more bass-y as the speaker is now behind the bezel. I prefer the audio without the anti-glare kit.

I usually only play in the dark with room's blacklight on, so glare isn't really an issue anyway. Also, the anti-glare bezel keeps you further away from the game. With the original bezel, I would lean into the game a little - the sides would block my peripheral vision so I could completely tune everything else out but the game.

I'm going to switch back to the original bezel soon.

AD lost it for me with the addition of the "killer satellite" I really just enjoy busting big rocks into smaller rocks and then blowing those rocks into even smaller rocks then destroying the even smaller rocks alltogether, occaisionally being interupted by an alien spaceship....all while listening to the Jaws theme..... ;)

I think the killer satellite is one of the best parts of the gameplay. Busting up rocks is fun for awhile and the saucers do break up the monotony pretty good. But when that satellite comes to chase you around it's a great little adrenaline boost.

The awesome out limits theme vastly enhances that particular machine. And where it is positioned it looks like your playing an Asteriods Deluxe suspended in space. Friggin all sorts of cool!

Asteroids Deluxe in amazing! Awesome cabinet artwork, awesome gameplay, amwesome blacklight effect. The list goes on.

i miss my AD. was a cocktail, but i had to get rid of it to get my tempest. definitely a fun game in UR form though, and judging by the stool in front of it, i'd say you play it a lot.

Looking forward to playing a few games of AD and Tempest this Saturday. I
love my Asteroids and I haven't played "deluxe" since BITD.

I havent read this whole thread - but I have VERY MUCH thought the same thing - Asteroids Deluxe is a GREAT sequel...

Blue overlay - rotating asteroids - sheilds - 3D graphics... and that annoying thing that chases you around!!!

Seriously a COOL sequel...

I have a real shitty AD cab. I have been tempted to drop a space duel it in just to see how it would look with the blacklight..

AD, is a keeper. I don't ever care to own a asteroids.. its just too plain..

I was just watching the thing last night and they have an AD in there. Sides were painted brown..

SW + Tempest > AD + Tempest

...just sayin'

EDIT: Now don't get me wrong. AD is one helluva fine game... but it is no Star Wars. Think about it. Control scheme? SW wins. Graphics? SW wins with color. Gameplay? SW wins with multiple "screens" vs just... Asteroids. Sounds? How about "Use The Force Luke" vs "Doo..doo..doo..doo....doo..doo.doo.doo...ping-ping-ping-ping...weew---weew---weew---dididididididiiii"? SW wins. The only thing AD is superior to SW on is cabinet due to the bitchen 3D blacklight background.

I have not played on a cab with the anti-glare kit, but I do like the original. The way it's angled, you can get up close to the monitor and the speaker is right around you. Total imerssion.

And yes...AD rocks.

P.S. Pay no attention to Frizz. He's just sad because his AD is now sitting in my basement where it gets lots of love

So, why did you sell both of your SW's?

It's called "profit" my friend. Actually... I sold the upright because I had the cockpit... and I sold the cockpit for the profit. I'll acquire another upright some day.

Ive always wanted a SW just because. I don't think I even like the game, and have never even seen any of the movies. The shitty thing is that in CA, they are rarely under the $800 clip...and sometimes that price includes non working ones. Eff that noise.
