My Gorgar started acting up. When pop bumper 1 is activated, the solenoid kicks the ball, but it also registers a tilt and locks the playfield out. When pop bumper 3 is activated it kicks the ball, but resets the game to attract mode. Any suggestions on where to start with this would be much appreciated!!

Sounds like something is shorted somewhere. Did you recently work on the underside of the playfield?

I was working on mine a few weeks back, accidentally dropped the playfield on the front of the cabinet above the coin door and bent a few connections on some coils and lamps. Cause all kinds of havoc before I figured it out.

BTW...I see your from Port Clinton...LOVE that area. Wife and I try to get up there at least 2-3 times a summer. Im sure you have been to the Crows Nest? Great food there.

I would agree that that seems like a possible problem, except for that we were playing it pretty solidly for 3 weeks, and nothing changed with the game. It just started during one of the games we were playing! My first thought was bad diodes on the solenoids, but I have not tested either yet. I am thinking more likely something with the Driver board, as the one that is in here has had serious heat damage that was repaired at some time before I owned it.

Sounds like a shorted diode on a coil. Best way to test is with one end disconnected. I've seen some that are not entirely shorted, but partially.

I just had a problem with my gorgar where when you flip the right flipper, the game would say "Gorgar". Turned out to be a broken diode on the right flipper coil. I guess my point is that I second checking the diodes, they can cause strange behavior.

Gonna test em later today, but it is weird that it is 2 pop bumpers, and they started at the same time, I will check em though. thanks!

Tested all diodes on affected Solenoids. All tested fine. Took Solenoind Driver board out and tested all TIP120s and N4401s in the 6 Special Solenoid drive section in the board. All tested fine. Re assembled game, fired it up, and now problem is gone again. My conclusion is flakey connections, so I guess i will rebuild all of the connectors on it!!

...was just about to tell you to try re-seating the driver board; flaky connections between the two can cause a host of issues...

I occasionally have to re-seat the driver board on my System 6 games, even on some that have had the connectors on the driver board replaced. If you're having to do it a lot, replacing the connectors on both boards will save you headaches going forward to be sure.
