Got a Gorf that has had 1 owner and was never on location.

One of the optics is dead on the joystick I guess. Very slight water touched the bottom. We will see how this all works out.
Once I get it cleaned up I will take better pics, in and out.

Thanks all... it is supposed to have a receipt that could follow in several weeks... but I only paid for it what I would pay for a game that does not have one.

Got a couple dings, and several scratches through the artwork (which hides them pretty well) on one of the sides. But the game is great, works besides the bad optical sensor, and once cleaned, may just look as close to brand new as I have owned.

Now I have to go to storage and see if I have a Gorf CP with a spx11879-11 sensor

I will take more pics tomorrow in the light.

Nice pickup. How'd you come across is?

I got them from a guy who came across a small lot of HUO games in one house. He got 2 to sell and I lost out on the other, so he offered me this one at a real decent price.

Cool guy though, brought me a NOS "name that tune" kit, and a NOS Bally Sente mother board/board set on the aluminum as well. Very cool stuff!

Great looking game, it's got the early run solid non-louvered bezel trim at the bottom.

Sometime look at the 40 pin chips in the cage and post if they have heatsinks on them or not. It seems like Midway was trying to alleviate heat problems, and added the louvers and heatsinks on those chips to later cabs.

I will def check this today!

I am also going to run over to storage today and see if I have these optical sensors today. Dang.

Damn thats a nice looking gorf. I might be getting one next week but its a project.

Like Mike said, make sure the customs on the cpu board and the IO board have heatsinks. If they dont they can be added. Midway just used a slightly modified TO-220 heatsink. I have some exact nos replacments if you need some. Mine are copper, midway ones were aluminum. Same manufactuer and same part number on heatsink, just different material.

A small fan on the pcb cage is a good idea as well.

Nice score, Andy!

I first played Gorf back when I was 12 and it was my favorite game. 30 years later, tried it on Mame, and thought "I liked this game?"

Two weeks ago, I played a dedicated Gorf at Funspot for the first time in 30 years - man, that adrenaline and joy came back in an instant! Great game!

Great looking game. Can't go wrong with a gorf. As mentioned before - you don't normally see a CP that clean. Hopefully you can find a replacement for the controller optic.

Thanks guys... just did some testing with Tom (bullwinkle) and we have confirmed it has a bad optic. I would like to get a whole set of 4. Does anyone know where there are any?

I am going to post some heart breaking pictures soon... :(

That doesn't sound good

I saved it! I will post pictures a little later.
The short version was the guy that delivered it got the bottom inch of the press board on the base wet. It started to swell after he left and the veneer was starting to peel up.

I needed to act fast once I realized what was happening.

I took quick action, so there are not a lot of "before pictures... but I have during the treatment and after shots.

It is not "perfect" But considering the original pictures showed some slight "belling" at the bottom due to 30 years in a basement on a concrete floor... it actually looks better than in the pictures I was sent (IE before it took on water). So the water in take may have been a good thing...lol

Pics a bit later today... the solution is VERY simple!
