(EDIT - FIXED - for future searches: The problem was in the molex connector. By recrimping all new pins, the controls all work well.)

Well, I finally have the ship moving well in all 4 directions, but now the fire button does nothing.

1. I re-crimped all the connectors, both the 12-position molex control panel connector as well as the 2 in-line connectors that run to the joystick pcb.

2. Took apart the handle and the switch. On-off continuity checks out ok at the switch, at the J1 connector (pins 1 and 3) and even on the pcb solder joints themselves. Started a game and tried to fire by squeezing the leaf switch blades together, nothing. The joystick bulbs stay on on, too. Usually when you hold down the trigger fire they turn off, then on when you release.

3. Getting 4.97vdc at the J2 header.

Two things I'm wondering about.
1. Pin 3 on the J2 header is labeled "Joystick trigger (+line)" on the chart that I have. I assume this has something to do with sending the fire command to the main boardset? Different function then the "Joystick trigger (+line)" at J1, pin 3? How do I test it - with the switch also or just continuity to the boardset?

2. And I hesitate to mention, there's a green earth ground attached to a bolt/nut on the cp that's snipped off at the other end. I doubt this means anything because the fire button worked until this morning and I assume that wire's always been hanging there.

Thanks,
Marc
