Hey guys,

Getting ready to paint a GORF and was wondering - those of you who have already restored a GORF, how did you do the white splatter?

Thanks
Don

paint brush: load brush at tip, stipple the paint brush, flicking it with finger. (twss)

spray gun/air brush: reduce pressure in a hvlp gun or use something to deflect the blast on to the media.

spray can: you can also barely depress a spray paint can to let it trickle piss out.

all techniques all require artistic finesse practice and there is no perfect way, but neither is the splattering. its essentially random chaos.

Dip a toothbrush in a little thinned oil white paint, stand back from the cab so the splatter pattern is wide and spread out. Flick the back of the toothbrush with your finger. Keep moving your aim around a little each time until you cover the full area. Practice on a board first to get the feel of it, you don't want the splatter too close together or else you have to do that all over the cab to look even. It's a really light, spread-out pattern originally.

Yep this. When I did it, I laid the (masked) side art on the cab sides first in the approximate spot it would be permanently placed, then stippled around it. That way no paint blobs ended up underneath the decal causing bumps that could be seen through the vinyl.

looks great, really good distribution and randomness with small and largish blobs!... and good idea with pre placing with the mask in place.

Yeah - that really looks good Phet.
Sounds (and looks) like that's the way to go.

Thanks for the input guys.
