I played Gorf on a real Colecovision for the first time today, and Mission 14. Seems pretty easy, not that arcade Gorf is much harder.

I've never played Gorf on Coleco. I think the arcade version on the easy boardset is too easy, the hard boardset is where it's at.

Yes I need to play the hard ROMs seems to me that it is too easy to just get up close and fire rapid fire style, you are pretty much invincible, except to lasers and the fireballs.

My guess is that if you've not played Gorf on a dedicated cabinet in ...oh... 20+ years... and then you drop in a credit and make it to Space General.... you're using the easy boardset.

I haven't played Gorf on Colecovision since about 1985 or 86. I would say it is easier than the arcade version from what I remember. And for the record, there's nothing easy about the "easy" ROM arcade version. The hard ROM version is extremely hard. I don't see anyone boasting how good they are on the hard ROM version....

No boast...I'm aight...I don't know what others get since TG doesn't track them separately.

I'm not pointing fingers at you Steve. You're one of the best damn gamers of our generation. You're good at a great variety of games which I think is awesome.

The hard version of Gorf is really very different from the easy version in game strategy I'm sure you'll agree. I agree with you, TG should also keep scores for the harder version. I bet there is some guys including yourself that could put up a damn good score.

I started getting into the hard version a bit a few months ago. There was a tourney at Richie's arcade and Gorf was one of the titles available for play. The tourney has 1 hour time limits on games and I knew Don and myself could both play the hour and as you know John the scores would likely be very close and likely in the 180-210k range or so.

I think during my last practice run a few weeks prior I was at 205k after an hour and without deaths which slows down your pace slightly. Then Richie's PCB wouldn't boot into anything but 6 ship mode so he had to replace it in the tourney with the hard Romset. That actually was cool because I didn't have to wait for a one hour timed game but also it left the door open for a greater separation of score if one could pull off a very good game on that boardset.

I've kind of gotten hooked on the hard set now as I enjoy fast paced, short games and that definitely fits the bill. The awesome thing about the hard romset that I was talking to Don about during the tourney is that NO board is safe. Even the invaders board can be a problem and you can't just go on autopilot on those boards or the laser boards etc. There is danger everywhere, very fun.

Those are really good scores to say the least. I've only played the hard version a couple of times over the years, the most recent about 6 months ago. To say that I got my ass kicked would be an understatement. I kinda wish I had the hard boardset so I could practice and mix it up a bit playing that and the easy version as well. Maybe I better just concentrate on attempting to take the easy version WR back. It'll be a damn miracle if I do, but I think I might have one good game left in me...

I have complete faith in you taking this back. Maybe I'll give it a go at FS next week if I'm up for it.
