I have this Gorf... been working on it for a while... little bit here little bit there... there are just so many frigging things that can/will go wrong with this machine!!!!

First it was the custom ICs... then the audio amp... then I replaced the amplifier IC on the RGB board... finally the colors are (somewhat) right... but now the screen is slanted at the bottom (would be right of the monitor if it were shelf mounted). This isn't the monitor though... I've already adjusted it perfectly with another game.

Just a rant... not looking for an answer.... not now anyway... going to work on something else.

quick question... are the invaders on the bottom row of the first wave and the gorfian that drops them down supposed to be a noisy red color? or pure red? mine looks static-y.... probably another damned issue!!!!

Damned thing!... and to think I just spent 73 bucks on a new CPO!!!!

The first row of gorfians look "static-y" when they drop down past a certain point if you don't shoot them all right away. Seems normal unless you're getting that right away.

They are like that the entire time... right from the get go and the gorfian that pops across the top crapping them out also looks the same way...

... as I expected... just another @#!@$%@! issue.

"Some kind of Galactic Warrior you turned out to be" LOL sorry good luck, i know what you are going through i have been there!

Oh yeah... completely rebuilt supply... all outputs are perfect!

Are you checking the outputs on the supply board or at the game boards? I had to replace Molex connectors to get reliable power at the game boards in mine. In fact, that and rebuilding the power supply were the last things I did to my Gorf, and it has been solid as a rock for like 5 years now.

The garbage in the invaders could also be caused by a flaky RAM card, I think.

Everything replaced... headers, housings, pins... all voltages measured on the board.

If the power is clean and you're experiencing video corruption, there pretty much has to be some kind of issue in the board set I think.

There's been a Gorf for sale about an hour and a half from me for a while on CL lately. It's broken but looks nice...and only $100 delivered. I almost bit. But then I remembered how much I hate Gorf. And now this reinforces that I made the right decision and I won't reconsider. Thank you frustrated Gorf people. I feel better about it now.

Gorf all that bad?

Is Gorf really all that bad? I have never played it, but the SI/Galaga seems fun. The creator is a weird guy/gal so I can understand if it sucks. :D

it does not suck! i have gotten as far as space general, and when you advance in rank, hearing the gorfian overlord speak to you in your new rank is actually quite fulfilling! the gameplay is somewhat ripped off from other games, but it is unique enough and the sounds are great!

Oh... don't get me wrong... I LOVE the game, the cabinet, the synthetic voices... all of it. Its just mine has so many things wrong with it... it has been my most problematic game from the start.

I certainly will be able to get through all of the issues... I'm just fed up with it for the moment... Its just the game I work on for a bit... get pissed.... walk away.... go back... fix something... find something... get pissed again. ;)

I played it in MAME last night, it is good, the graphics are a little blocky compared to the games it ripped off. Looks like Atari 800 computer.

Not that this is definitive, but in MAME (I tried several versions, including a fairly recent one), the first row of invaders does have a little static on him at the start of the game, as does all the other red objects (the saucer, and Gorf himself). The static becomes really bad when the bottom row of invaders crosses thru the shield.

Yes the first row are static for me all the time in MAME too.
