Gorf eprom question

I'm 99% sure they are pin equivalent. I just looked online quickly and came across this pinball document that mentions a 9332 and 2532 are interchangeable...

I'm not so sure that they are interchangeable. Off the top of my head it seems I remember in the back of the Gorf manual it had separate strapping for the PROM's and EPROM's. Also, I remember boards that had a mixture of the two and the EPROM's always had a bent pin and a jumper (IIRC).

I would grab the Gorf manual and have a look at the last page just to be sure. I would look but it is so freakin' late that I'm about to fall asleep on the keyboard.

Good luck!

Hmmm... I know I can read the 9332 ROMs by choosing the 2532 option on my Needham PB-10. I swear I've replaced 9332 ROMs with 2532 EPROMs in the past. I also am pretty sure I've replace 9316s with 2516s.

I'll have to pull out the Needham unit and see if I have anything written down about it.

First I need :coffee:.

BTW, Commander Dave... did you ever release your code for that little Gorf demo you did? I love watching the Youtube video on it and I've always thought it'd be cool to have Gorf say my name or maybe "Vvvvidddiot Arrrrrcade". :D

I pretty much got it figured out. I do know the proms used on pacs are directly replacable with an eprom with no modification. Thats what was throwing me off. I was having issues because there are two different type of rom boards for gorf. I have two different rom sets and as far as I can tell you need to burn a specific rom set for the type of rom board your using.
I burned both roms sets on 2532 eprom and all the rom boards were strapped right for 2532. Both versions of the rom boards would only run with one of the romset versions and not the other.
One version of the rom board has 8 sockets and the other has 16. On the one with 16 you leave an empty socket between each rom. Its possible that one rom set requires the roms be spaced out and the other doesnt, didnt get that far into it.
So the conclusion is 2532 worked as a direct replacment for the prom but the correct rom set needed to be used for the board that was arranged for proms. Once I figured out what I needed to do I had all 6 rom boards working. You are also supposed to be able to run 2732 on these with the correct strapping but last time I tried I wasnt successful. Its possible I was burning the wrong romset with those too but I was also using unverified strapping info I found on the net. Anyone used 2732 succesfully?
If anyone else has more info on these please post for reference.

...my pocket programmer doesnt seem to read the proms correctly. They dont verify against either romset. This was a working set of proms so I know that wasnt the problem. I will have to do some testing with some pac proms because I know I have dumped these before and they compare fine. Maybe its a third romset? Dont know, maybe I will try copying this set of proms to eprom and try it out.

Here's what I know....there are two different sets of Gorf ROMs. They can not be mixed. You also have to deal with "domestic" and "foreign" ROM boards. Regarding 9332s....they are not all the same. The 9332 comes in three flavors....9332A, 9332B, and 9332C (I believe the "B" is a drop in for a 2532...but don't hold me to it).

I have several tubes of gorf proms and if I remember right there are A, B, & C's in there. If I recall, all the pac ones were B's but I would have to look to be sure. Makes sense but I wonder what the others are compatible with?
Like I said, I have both versions of the rom boards. Anyone know which is domestic and which is foreign?

Domestic is the one with the most EPROM sockets....where you skip every other location.

I've also had two different (foreign) ROM boards come through with location X9 populated....one labeled FRENCH....one labeled GERMAN. Everything was still in English (text and speech). I removed them, and the game still played the same....I have no idea what they did.
