Gorf... blue background distorts? (and only the blue background?)

Was just putting the finishing touches on our Gorf cabaret and a bit of an odd problem has crept up... the blue background(and only the blue background) will distort and kinda break up. The men on the screen, your guy, and the score seems to be alright but the background gets weird.

It doesn't happen too bad really... you can play the game but it's annoying. You can also tell the brightness is changing slightly when this happens. I'm going to try another monitor but I have a sneaky suspicion it may be a PCB issue.

Just putting the feeler out to see if this rings a bell with anyone.

BTW, I've swapped out all the PCB pins with new ones and I've replaced about half the mating harness connectors(focusing on the video signal for these)... still no change. And I've also tried a different RGB board and it was exactly the same.

TIA, :beerchug:

Take your two Ram cards (they're identical, the two small ones) and swap what order they're in the cage. If your problem changes, one of your ram cards is bad.

I had one go bad once where it threw blue bars on the screen, swapped the ram card and it fixed it.

The 'better' way would be to figure out which ram chip it is, but that's a bit tougher :)

Hmmm... I never thought to swap the RAM cards for this. Will try it now, thanks. :)

BTW, I have had artifact issues in the past and I did swap RAM cards to see if they changed but this issue just didn't make me think RAM.

Oh, and I got my high score today while "testing"... :D

(See, it's not that bad but it is annoying...)

Pulled the old switcheroo with the RAM cards and it's still the same.

Going to try a different monitor just to make sure...
