Good Superauction in Atlanta today, and picked up some personal Grails!

I just got home from the Atlanta Super Auction. I thought it was a pretty good one. Met some fellow KLOVers there like Preston (nocashvalue) and Arthur. Bought some games that i have been trying to pick up for a LONG time, including...

Outrun 2 twin (will update to SP)
Sega F355 twin -as much as i wanted a deluxe, it was nice and much more practical!
Quick and Crash -modern Namco light gun target game with interesting features
"Big Blue" Dynamo Capcom Qsound cabinet

On both the racing games, i was in direct bidding competition with the same guy both times. Im thinking he MAY be a member on here. Sorry if I make the auction bad for you, but i have been wanting to pick those games up for a LONG time. I traveled a good ways to get there, and i wanted to take advantage of being able to get these on the same trip. I actually contemplated talking with him about it, but didn't know how he would feel about me even bringing it up.

Overall, I am really happy with how the auction went. There were LOTS of great deals to be had. A lot of older equipment was going for $10-$25 a piece. A really nice Stargate went for $200 and one of the nicest Joust machines that i have seen in a LONG time went for $500 early in the auction. A nearly mint anniversary Space Invaders/Qix combo game (with 25" monitor) was the THIRD Game to be auctioned, and it sold for only $387.50. I THOUGHT about bidding on that one, but it was too early in the game for me to start buying games right off the bat. You have to pace yourself, you know?

LARGE equipment, of which there was a LOT of, was not selling very well. The BEST deal of the event were 6 brand new WSOP high top cocktails with secondary LCD viewing screens (for spectators) which all sold for $750 EACH. They claimed that these are $6K a piece, and they sure looked like it. They also had 6 of those huge "Ballistics" games that you lie down inside of looking up at the screen and play a racing game sort of like Wipeout. The only person who was willing to take (only one) of the six pieces paid only $150 for it. There were still signs on the games where the owner had previously been trying to "clearance" them out for $2,000 a piece...

Sorry about that. I felt kind of bad since you obviously wanted the same Games that i was there for. I've been trying to get those for a while now, and didn't want to miss the opportunity. I wish that i would have picked up that house of the dead projection upright as well. It went for only $100!

I ended up with two of those three time crisis 2 double cabs. Nothing like paying $25 each for (almost) working cabs. Outrun 2 is my personal favorite; nothing like losing your grail and then having the guy you lost it to come brag about it on the forums!

If I had a warehouse and a box truck, I would have bought every piece of crap in there. They were practically giving away free boards, monitors and cabs.

Lee, Great to meet you. Man, there were some definite deals to be had. Unfortunately, I didn't have the logistics covered to be able to get more than 1 piece at the auction. I had both kiddos since my wife was walking the breast cancer 3-day. That made the end of the auction torturous for me. they had PLENTY of games go for 25-75 dollars and many WORKING games (like a decent MK3 in a DYNAMO) that were passed on when they wouldn't even get a bid. There was a cosemtically decent Star Trek cockpit that had been converted that didn't even fetch $10 and was passed on. Trust me, If I wasn't on Dad duty and had a UHaul, I would have been buying up $75 working Ms. Pacs all day long.

I have heard the owner of the auction location was pleased, so I hope superauctions comes back. Aside from one in February that was held during an ice storm, they haven't been to Atlanta is years.

dude, I would have gladly helped ya out with the truck!
I only got the one......Burgertime!
Prices where a buyers market. Prob a good thing I got that sweet BT, as I prob would have hauled a truck full home, with little extra space!
Great to see and meet a few more local Klovers too!

Thanks. Now, I have got a LOT of work to do. The only logical thing for me to do now is that i am going to have to sell of my $3,000 Peter Vitalie billiards table that NEVER gets used to make room for the re-arrangement of my arcade. When we moved into our house in 2001, my wife was adamant that we have a nice billiards table. I spent over $2,500 having a new steel support beam moved into the ceiling in the game room to eliminate a support post in the middle of the room, so that we could have a perfect, unrestricted use of the pool table without any obstructions. When you have a large pool table, you have to have a TON of wasted square footage around it, or else you can't swing your pool stick without bumping into something. Once i get rid of the pool table, it will change things dramatically in my arcade.

It was nice to meet you guys. I am really happy about the possibility that more Atlanta auctions may be forthcoming, but i think that this will be my last one for a LONG time. I have LOTS of work to do to organize what is currently in the game room, what i just purchased AND the projects that are still in my detachaed workshop...

If you don't mind me asking. How much did you pickup the Outrun 2 twin for??

That was a nice Burgertime. I did not know that was you or I would have introduced myself. I was wanting that too just was more than I wanted to pay.

I got a 2 player Blitz for $25.00 and a 2 slot Neo Geo playing blind with SS IV for $25.00 as well.

The auction was pretty great, as most of the vids went for crazy low prices. I picked up a nice CarnEvil for cheap (just in time for my annual Halloween party), and if I had the storage room, I definitely would have bought a hell of a lot more.

The only bummer was the pins, with the owner bidding on his own stuff and making the prices out-of-reach. In a conversation with "GA gamer" and myself, he had went on about how he wanted to get rid of everything, but he ended up keeping at least half (or more) of his pins. It seemed like he really didn't want to sell most of them.

It was nice seeing "groffdaddy", Steve Larmon, and "bhamarcade" (who I haven't seen in forever) there.

Looking forward to the next one!

Before the auction, i spoke with the owner on the phone about the pins. I totally expected there to be a LOT more buy-backs than there was. One example was the Attack From Mars. During our phone conversation, he had indicated to me that he expected it to bring a MINIMUM of $4,600, and yet it sold for $2,600. At some point during the auction, it would appear that he was willing to "let go" of equipment without obsessing over what they were going for. He was obviously making sure that a lot of late model equipment (like the house of the dead 4 deluxe and the Rush 2049 special editions) did not go for less than he expected. Those items, including the LARGE Hydro Thunders, of which I had NEVER seen before were "passed on" when bidding didn't get up to a level that was accceptable to him.

The Outrun 2 twin went for $1,425 before buyers premium and taxes, which was more than i was expecting to pay, but by son kept pulling my arm up during the bidding as he was NOT going home without it...

The machine was really nice, too. It looked great, and unlike all the other DMD pins, it seemed to be working 100%.

I had THOUGHT that the Attack From Mars did sell for $2,600, but it WAS still on the floor when I left late that day just after the auction ended. I was running into and out of the room because i had a BBQ sandwich sitting on a picnic bench just outside the door when those pins were being auctioned. I did notice that JUST before it went up for auction, the right flipper had stopped working. Im sure it was probably something minor, but notable.

I am KICKING myself for not picking up one of those LCD high-top poker machines for only $750. They were SWEET, and don't take up a lot of floor space. Something that can double as a drink holder and entertainment at the same time...

The dude that won the LotR was trying to win the Attack from Mars, but wasn't willing to outbid the seller. I didn't catch what his highest bid was, but I believe it was somewhere over $3k.

I was bummed out that the right flipper died on the AFM. I really wanted to play that machine, and by the time I got a chance to play it, it was crapped out. :(
