Good source of HAPP Competition buttons and sticks?

I have bought directly from HAPP, and GroovyGameGear in the past.

HAPP is expensive, and Groovy is good, but they are in NYS so I have to pay sales tax. Also they don't have competition buttons. I have heard that shipping is slow from Lizard Lick.

What do you guys think?

what's the difference between the "competition" buttons and the regular ones (like Bob sells for 50 cents cheaper)?

edited to add:

never mind, i found it. convex vs. concave tops.

and Bob sells the "competition" buttons for 35 cents cheaper, though his price on "competition" joysticks is about $3 more. it's hard to tell if what LL and Bob call "competition" joys are the same thing since it looks like there's a history of name changes at HAPP, and it's possible his "ultimate" equates with LL's, which would put it at $1 more.

and of course, Bob's shipping is super fast.

Bob has buttons on sale for $1.35 (reg $1.50), and the comp sticks are $11.

divemaster (http://www.arcadeemulator.net) from the BYOAC forums has the buttons for $1.43, and the sticks are $7.95.

the shipping may kill the price difference on the sticks, you will have to check. Bob has about the best shipping prices you can find. divemaster adds shipping with each item (judging by the items I was going to buy from him a while back).

I vote Bob Roberts. He has low prices, great service and he cross ships which means you'll have your parts probably within 3-4 business days even though you have snail mail him a check.

Competitions and Ultimates have been around for YEARS. HAPP has Supers Ultimates and Competitions. Supers are horrible, Ultimates are passible, but the Competitions are the best. Don't bother with the others, ever. Especially for fightings games.

I want to pick up some competition buttons to see how I like them over standard convex buttons.

Check? Not even paypal?

Nope. He has a hatred for Paypal. He has a link on his website that goes to page that practically talks about how Paypal is the devil and that there are hundreds of complaints about how they steal money and are not liable for things. Doesn't scare me though. Everyone has their preferences.

Rest assured, Bob is top-notch and, like I said, you'll receive your parts faster than most websites that do take electronic funds. Just title search "Bob Roberts" here on KLOV and you'll find a bunch of "Bob Roberts is the man!" "Bob Roberts is awesome!" "Bravo to Bob Roberts!" You get the idea. :D

You can contact him at [email protected]

if you do order with Bob, ask him about his joysticks... his "competition" might be the older, IL/european built ones which could account for the price difference.

then again, maybe his are $3 higher than elsewhere, but from what i've found that's pretty unusual.

Bob does a LOT of business, I'd probably be afraid to take paypal if I was doing his volume as well. They have a history of freezing large amounts of money through certain vendors, a bump like that could put him out of business. Plus they eat the profit margin up, plus Bob's old school and feels more comfortable with checks.

There's a pin place that does the same thing, www.PBResource.com . Lots of people won't use him because he takes checks, but personally I find him (and Bob) to be the two best parts sources around.

I hope not!!! My Marvel Vs Capcom had them in it, and you could not activate diagonals with them. They look the same as the HAPP Competitions, but do not work the same.

I have heard that shipping is slow from Lizard Lick.

That might have been the time last year when there was huge shortage for Sanwa or Seimitsu parts due to the release of SFIV. I ordered from him last month and couldn't be happier. I placed the order on Thursday evening then got shipping confirmation on Saturday via email and then the following Wednesday it was at my doorstep in Toronto, Ontario.

I won't not hesistate to order from him again and also because I prefer iL sticks over HAPP.

Seriously iL over HAPP? What do you use them in? I couldn't even active a diagonal in the control input tests with the iLs.

Also I the switches that all sticks and buttons are coming with I am having corrosion issues with. Does anyone know of a source of gold plated switches? I would get them from Mouser or MCM if I knew the part number.

My bosh dishwasher has a switch just like the ones in arcade controls, but the spring is too firm, but the contacts and insides are gold plated -- so no corrosion. I don't want to have to use deoxIT all the time to get those switches working again.

Ah a good place for a couple things. First, there was a thread a while back about Ultimates vs Competition, with some discussion about the actuators on the bottom of the stick being replaced at ggg vs the stock happ ones:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=121913

Also as far as bob only taking checks the best suggestion I've seen is to set him up as a recipient in your bank's online billpay if you have it. Involves a login to your bank's website instead of paypal, but still ends up with Bob getting a check. Haven't ordered from him before but I'm sure I will, now that I switched banks I really need to set that up.

As to who to get them from, I absolutely love my ggg sticks vs the standard happ ones just due to them feeling more responsive with the replaced actuators. Glad to hear lizard lick is no longer backlogged, they're definitely my favorite place for buttons just based on available selection. May not be as cheap as other places, but I don't do huge volume so for my 2 credits, the selection's worth it.

Just looking for best place to buy.

Yes, TK_Monkey we had this conversation before. I have all the sticks (iL, super, ultimate & competition) and find the newest revision of the HAPP competitions (newer looser black actuator or old white actuator) to be the best. I just want to get everything in one order, and avoid NYS sales tax. GGG doesn't carry the convex competition buttons.

I know, I figured I'd drop that in for the sake of others browsing this thread that might not have seen the other one, sorry for not being more clear. Hadn't seen the newer version of the happ comps, may have to order one to test it out. And I totally don't blame you for trying to dodge NYS sales tax, it was a bitch in the early 90s and I know it's only gotten worse.

Just wanted to say that I recently got several orders from Lizard Lick and they shipped out very fast. I ordered late in the evening, and got tracking no's the next day around lunch time.
