golden tee TOURNAMENT PLAY LED DISPLAY TOPPER

I replaced my hard drive with a compact flash kit and added a tournament topper on my Golden Tee Fore! 2005 machine.

On first power up, it said "Nikki's Irish Pub" on the tournament topper and said "Last Update: 10/22/05 5:16 PM" and after a while I looked back up and it then said "Last Update: 12/24/2013 10:10PM" and instead of "Nikki's Irish Pub" it said "This Location"

So my question is, I thought these could not update anymore? Especially since everyone else seems to be stuck with the location theirs was registered at on their sign and now mine is updated and no location registered. I can power it on again tomorrow and see if it is still updated.

I think the topper had Nikki's Irish pub on it and then eventually your hard drive's data updated the sign soon after. My topper message changed to a new bar when I got a new hard drive.

Ah, so is it understood now that the hard drive is what has the sign data?

Here is something I wanna clarify for you guys. Data is stored on both the hard drive and the topper. The topper stores whatever was last sent to it from the main PCB (the data on the HD) and the drive contains the last data it received from ITNet. Basically, you guys had your toppers change because the info on your HD was different from your topper, it pushed the info, and now it is displaying the last known info the HD has.

Ah. Well, shit...

He is right. I did dissect the header to a degree a few months ago and conpared notes with DogP...it would most likely take making either an addon or replacement board for it. You could prob get basic messages up but it will take analyzing the serial dats to figure that part out.

So....not giving any kind of false hope or anything....but...if you *could* program the Golden Tee topper to do or say something, what would you want?

Realizing its on one game, would you just want to customize it with a static (non-changing) message like the name of your 'cade, or would you want to have it do typical scrolling/animation type stuff?

"John's Arcade - Just JO, no gay stuff!"

Would love to just have it scroll arcade name, or maybe have the option of scrolling through a few different messages. Ideally, it would be cool to have an sd card or usb flash card that could hold the messages in a text file so that you could easily change the message whenever you wanted.

I'd even be happy with the default "Play Golden Tee!" messages if you could get rid of the Last Update and Welcome To This Location messages (mine literally says This Location).

Wanting to check in and see if anything further has happened with this project. Has anyone figured out how to change the sign and or add your own message to it?

If someone figures this out I am sure many to include myself would pay something to have our signs changed to say what we want them to say.

I'll start the discussion with $100 for an easily reprogrammable solution...

Bump, anyone else care to add anything to this conversation? I will be down for paying 100 bucks or so for an easily reprogrammable option as well

Hey Tok...I might need a board to test with. I think I have one but not sure. Wont be for a week or two after othet stuff gets wrapped up (and it stops ----ing snowing!!)

Hey do you need close up pictures at all for this board? I have the surface mount board style and didn't know if this might help with anything?
