Anyone know how to change the display on these toppers? I would like to personalize the message instead of the current bowling alley on there now.

Thanks

You can't. It has to be done throught the ITnet servers which have been shut down for years.

There are various forums out there where people have programmed special controllers to display messages on these, you'll just have to do an internet search.

I have tried searching for this a couple of months ago with no luck. You find anything let me know as it would be great to change the message.

I took a quick look at dumps from 2 of the socketed eproms with a hex editor and wasn't able to locate the message. I am not sure if this is encrypted or if I am not approaching this correctly.

I never found anything of substance. People trying to do something, but never successfully. I was hoping to find a similar sized programmable display and replace the GT's with it. The only one I found the same size was 3 color and very expensive.

You may already know this, not sure but the message is actually stored on the pcb in the sign, not the main game pcb.

Golden Tee Live's have a little wireless modem installed on the back under a little plastic bubble. Check it out, they can still get online. You probably can't change it though since you dont' have an account with IT.

I've already set it in my mind to ROM hack it, customize the artwork around it and hang it on the wall in the arcade. It is useless on the GT Lives and I've been wanting one for the arcade for years anyways.

Something interesting I discovered...

I used to think the data was stored in the sign. But, here's what happened with mine:

1) Bought game as 2005 Golden Tee Fore. The sign said it was at "Cypress Restaurant" and that it was 2005 Golden Tee Fore
2) Replaced PCB and hard drive with a Golden Tee Complete. The sign still said it was at "Cypress Restaurant" and that it was a 2005 Golden Tee Fore

Hard Drive DIES.

3) Replace hard drive with a Fore Complete drive from Ebay. Sign now says "Shortys Sports Bar" or whatever and that the game is now a Golden Tee Complete.

SO, the new hard drive DID change the sign data. So, maybe the answer is on the drive somewhere?

When I got mine (Fore 2005) I had a dead hard drive but the sign worked only displaying the bar name. I got a new hard drive off eBay and the bar name stayed the same but would then display more Golden Tee Fore info than just the bar name.

I have a GT 2004 and my sign displays Something Moose Lodge and says the game is a GT Complete. It scrolls through all 29 courses. Very odd.
