I'm trying to help a friend out with his recent purchase. The monitor is a Neotec nt-2701 and has it all - horizontal lines, dull - washed out colours, and double blurred images. Hopefully the pictures help out but they didn't turn out too well.

I realize these have flyback issues causing focus problems. I'm wondering if there is more to it, possibly a bad tube?

Should start with a capkit but if the tube is bad don't want to spend a bunch of time troubleshooting.

The game seems to be 100% other then the horendous picture.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Flybacks are a high failure rate item on those, but your problem (from the pictures) looks more like the screen is cranked way up to try and compensate for a dim picture.

On all the 270x series monitors the heater voltage is derived from the SMPS (not the flyback) and I see low heater voltage causing dim pictures on these all the time. Low heater voltage is usually a dried out cap in the power supply section. If you don't have a tube tester, I would go ahead and try replacing all the C1xx series caps in the SMPS (all on the corner of the board by the transformer) and see if that brightens the picture up.

In regards to the flyback, if you have any issues with dialing in the focus, then it drifts and it seems like you have to keep adjusting it, chuck a flyback in it.

I have had a few weak tubes, but the RCA tubes usually used on Neotec monitors have held up pretty good, as compared to the Zenith junk Wells Gardner was using around the same time.

Thanks for the reply. Cap kit has been ordered and I'll post back how it turns out.
