I just picked up a Golden Tee project. All I am getting is a green screen. I know the monitor works because I hooked up another JAMMA board and it worked fine. The hard drive is not spinning at all, but it is getting voltage to the hard drive.

I am not sure what version Golden Tee this is, so how would I know which hard drive to test with it? The seller said it was the one with 29 courses (complete) which I doubt and the marquee says 2005.

Would a bad ribbon cable cause the hard drive to not spin/boot?

Thanks

No, you would hear the HD boot up even if you had a bad ribbon. I would meter the connector going to the HD and see if the voltage is correct GT's are very picky about voltages. Sounds like its not getting power.

I am getting -5.36 DCV and -13.00 DCV at the HD power plug. Is this correct?

-edit -

I was just thinking I may have measured this wrong. I had the black lead on the black pin of the plug, then used the red lead to measure the red and yellow pins on the plug individually. Should the black lead of my DMM been connected to a ground wire instead?

Thanks

i have a similar issue.
bottom line the hard drive isn't loading.
I just bought a new power supply and it will be here today or tomorrow I think.
I will let you know if it fixes my problem.

I should point out the game works sometimes, but others, it tries to boot then quits, like it's experiencing a drop in power in there somewhere.
I have tried a brand new hard drive and it did NOT fix the problem. I put in a whole different pcb and hard drive and had similar problems.
My conclusion is the power supply.
HOpefully....
I will let you know.

It must have been too early in the morning for me to try and measure voltage. I just measured it again and I do have positive voltages going to the hard drive. I am going to assume the hard drive is bad.

How do I know which version of Golden Tee I have if the Hard Drive won't boot? The marquee says GT 2005, but the chip at U15 says GT 2001.

Thanks!

I haven't measured my voltages, though with the other things I tested. I don't think it's anything other than the power supply.

well as I was typing this post, my wife told me I got a box today. It's my power supply. I will get it installed and report back in a couple hours.

put in the new power supply and it's golden now.

now I wish I would have checked voltages on the old one, but I suppose I can do that later.

If you're ONLY getting a green screen, you've got something else going on, probably a power supply issue. If the hard drive is bad, the game will still come up to a 'loading' screen where it's searching for the hard drive. Kind of like a BIOS system on a computer does or whatever. You can plug the board in without the hard drive and will get text on the screen. If you're getting a green screen, try cleaning your edge connector and turning the power supply down a little bit, 5.3 is a little high if you're measuring it at the board.

When turned on I can see what appears to be a line or two of text at the top of the screen, but it is all garbled. I was measuring the 5.3 volts at the power connector that goes into the hard drive. Would it be a power supply issue since I hooked up a different JAMMA board and that worked fine? If I can't read the text on the screen, then maybe something on the board is bad?

Thanks!

For one thing, it sounds like you are running it in the wrong video output. There is a dip switch that changes the output from CGA to EGA(med res). If you are using a CGA monitor make sure it is set correctly. You can download the manual in PDF from ITS' website.

thanks rturb0. I changed the dip switch and I was able to read the text just fine. It said something about an error reading the hard drive. The manual stated I could change some of the connectors on the monitor to switch it over to med. resolution. This is a showcase cabinet, so who knows what game was in it before.

Thanks,
