Hello,

I have a green board with a 2005 security chip (G45-US), but my U15 chip says v.1.06. I got a 2005 Extra hard drive off of Ebay and my machine says "hard drive detect failed". I tried replacing the ribbon cable with a new one, but no change. I made sure the red line on the ribbon cable was plugged into the pin 1 side. I also measured the voltage across pins 16 and 32 and U15 and got 5.1 VDC.

My question is, do I need a newer version of the U15 chip for the hard drive to boot the hard drive? I know there is a version 2.08 u15 chip out there, but not sure what the differences are or where to buy the U15 chip.

Thanks!

Just some blind shots, but make sure the jumper on your hard drive is not in slave mode and check the power at your hard drive connector. You should have 5 and 12 volts present. Version 1.06 will work in a GT2005.

I checked the voltages at the plug that powers the hard drive and it is 5.2 VDC and 13.1 VDC. I'll double check the jumper settings. The cabinet is a showcase cabinet that someone had converted to a golden tee. I mention this because I believe they left the power wires on the JAMMA connector but also have the power bypass connectors hooked up to the PCB. Would this cause the hard drive to not boot properly?

Thanks!

It should be one or the other. The bypass cable is strongly recommended though. I can't say whether that would affect it detecting your hard drive though. Just to verify, the POST screen is counting down on detecting drive and then erring out? You can also try holding the start button on power up and see if those tests reveal anything. I've never seen a golden tee game board itself have a failure that would cause it to not see the hard drive although I have seen it on some other equipment. Have you tried the hard drive on something else, even a PC just to see if it detects it?

First off, the HD you got off Ebay, is it 40 gig or larger?

I have found that duplicating HDs for the Golden Tees, any versions 2004 and up that we have, had the "hard drive detect failed" show up whenever the replacement HD was 40 gig or larger.

In our cases, I have had to replace the U15 chip with version 1.08 in order for them to work.

As for the 2005 Extra, I'm not sure if the upgrade from 2005 to 2005 Extra required a security chip change or if it was just a CD Rom upgrade with the same chip. Maybe someone else could chime in and let us know.

Don't have a 2005 Extra close to us to take a look at the security chip markings.

Sorry for the delay, this game is about 30 miles away right now. The hard drive is 10 gig. The game now counts to "4" and says "Hard Drive Detected"...then nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
