Just picked up this game, it works nicely. Monitor is pretty stellar, only
occasionally it kind of goes red, darkens slightly at that point as well without
the blues and greens standing out well enough.

It acts as if it's a loose wire, but nothing appears to be loose or coming off.
moving or whacking or sliding the machine doesn't make it change in any way.

It is a red board, not sure how relevant that is. When I am looking at the board while running there are several led's on while the board is powered up. a couple of greens, 1 red, and one flashing red.

Is this just a cap kit issue? A specific cap or series of cabs needing to be replaced?
Nothing about the monitor suggests it needs a cap kit, aside from the color change if that indeed indicates that.

personally I would start by connecting a different monitor to it for a while and try to isolate the problem to either the game pcb/video card or the monitor.

I have heard you can connect a vga monitor directly to the video card by disconnecting the 15 pin jumper cable back to the game pcb.

At least then you know where to start looking for the problem.

Might be the video card. I just picked up a 2003 red board, too, and had to replace it. The screen was bleeding colors, and causing the game to freeze up. Replaced the video card, and it's been working great. *knocks on wood*
EDIT: You can only hook a VGA monitor to the card if it's an older one that can handle a lower refresh rate. I tried a few ones (all around 5+ years old) and none of those would sync up. I borrowed a friend's really old one, and I got a picture.

My GT monitor had the same issues, and 3 days later the flyback took a shit. Don't know if its related or not, as I haven't replaced the fly yet, but I will report back and let you know. I have heard nothing but bad things about Neotec monitors :(

I don't remember the red boards too well, but Golden Tee's in general have issues with the video cards. Wiggle it around a bit, and your game will go red, freeze up, or reboot. Try either cleaning/reslodering the connections (if you can, they're rather small), or replacing the video card. It should correct your problem.

anyone show me a pic of hte video card?

oh and I should mention that virtually everytime I turn on the game for the first time in a given day, it reboots itself one time after appearing to be ready to play.

after the reboot, it typically player perfect.

The green part on this one.

cool thanks, maybe I will pull that off if it comes off, and
check for cold solder joints, and clean her up a little bit.

haven't had the problem in a couple days now.
