Hello everyone,

I recently picked up my first arcade. Have been into Pinball but I've always wanted a Golden Tee.

The issue is:

Game boots fine, goes to attract mode, let's me add credit, goto select course (1-5). Then get the option for back 9, front 9, or all 18.

Once the selection is made, game just sits on that screen.

Any suggestions?

Thanks to all

Sounds like a bad drive to get that far and freeze.

I wondered that. The IDE light quits flashing as soon as you enter the "select player" screen.

This has the red board.

Next questions:

Can this game be updated with new drive and rom to a COMPLETE? Since I probably need a new drive anyway.

Can you make these into Silver Strike/Complete? How much trouble is that?

If you want a Complete, it's easiest to get a working board/HD combo and swap it in. You can "upgrade" to Complete, but you need a non working Complete board for donor chips and you would also need a HD or CF card with the latest boot rom. Complete has come way down in price, so it's probably easier to get a working board/HD.

upgrade to complete is not as simple as a chip swap. some of the code for the security devices are soldered to the board. there are some members of Klov that can help with upgraded boards and they should be around 300 to a little less from what I have seen. The CF upgrade is available for the complete. The CHD files are out there for the GT fore 2004 game in Mame so you could just reflash a new HDD and get yours up and running cheap for the moment. FYI

Ok so, I don't want to spend $300-$400 on this game just to get 29 courses. I would be fine with just running my 5.

One of the chips I was referring to is a surface mount soldered U61. I upgraded my working 2005 using a dead Complete by swapping U53 (socketed), U61 (surface mount soldered) and the HD/boot rom. Those are the parts necessary. I didn't go into detail since I think buying a working board/HD is better since they've come way down. The last few that Brandon has had were $275 shipped.

So, your saying for $275+-, I could just remove my board and hd, replace with the new board and hd, and I've got a running Complete? Sounds easy.

Also, I don't have any sound coming from the game. Of course I checked where my level was set and it's on 80. I do hear a slight buzzing and crackling which is in sync with the IDE Activity LED blinking.

I would take out your speaker grill and make sure that they are connected properly. Some times the blade connectors can fall off

First thing I will do tonight. Well, after pouring a little Scotch in a glass. LOL

Looking into this more, I have an Eagle U15 V 2.01. That Eprom will not boot a "today" size hd so I would need to install a V 2.09 chip to change the HD...Correct? If I'm reading right. So, on EBAY, I can get a HD and Eprom for $50. Or, find someone with Complete board and HD which I haven't found yet. Still looking.

Yes the Eagle 2.09 allows for a bigger HDD. The person of KLOV you want to talk to is Brandon AKA ToplessZ. He might be able to fix you up or point you in the direction that you will find what your looking for.

So I ordered a new HD and Eprom V 2.09 from Arcade Services and installed. Wouldn't boot. Put old HD in and it booted and froze at the same spot.

Called Arcade Services at 6:30 p.m. Central and the guy answered. Went through a few questions and said he was sorry and he will send a new one out in the morning. Awesome customer service. A+++

Update: so new HD came in and same exact problem. Pick a course pick how many holes and freezes. Ughhhhh. Now what?

What Now?

So, after putting in new hard drive and Eprom with V2.09, game worked for a weekend. Played maybe 6 games. But I noticed every time I shut the game down and back on, the red hue is way too high and needed adjusting.

Then, went to play it again and same as before issue. Boots up, no sound, red screen hue, pick course and number of holes and freezes. We then suspected a bad power supply as we are not getting 5vdc at pin 16 and 32 on the boot Eprom. We get 1.75vdc.

Changed power supply and same issue.

I'm thinking it's the board itself. What do you guys think?
