A friend of mine brought me this pcb. He is getting ready to turf it, unless I can get this chip replaced. It's hard to see from the pic, but that intel chip is quite swelled. I've watched vids on this, some used quick chip, but if the chip is toast, one would just cut the legs off, clean the pcb and replace? Also can anyone tell me what this chip is and where I can get one? Thanks.

That board is probably toast. That chip controls harddrive loading. Depending on what the tiny 8 pin socketed chip has on it also affects if you can steal the chip from another boardset. Unless you can harvest that chip from a board that has a good one your SOL. You will also have to get the chip from another board that has a SB1 chip (I thinks thats whats on your sticker). Which is going to be hard to find since this board is one of the original boards that came with GT , not many of them left laying around. Its different than the 2003-2006 boards.(they have SB4, SB5 chips which are also dictated by the Xilinx part number above your bloated chip) If the video card works then sell it and buy a new board.

Thanks. I will tell him is is probably better off to scrap it. That makes sense cause he thought the hard drive was bad and went and bought a new one. I should tell him to keep the old one just n case.
