Who's the expert on the old series standard res GT boards? I would like to understand these boards better.

I have a '95 and '99 that are double stack. And a '97 and 2k that are single boards.
My '99 has 4 roms marked '95, and 8 marked 2k.
Are the 4 roms base game code? Are the GROM graphics? What do SROMs do?

Are all the "old series" boards interchangeable? i.e. can I get two more single boards and transplant the roms from a double stack? If so, does it matter which board I get?

What is the function of the ITGF chip? Security? Are they ties to a specific rom set?

Is it possible to stack the data roms/ITGF from multiple years on one board, lift the Vcc leg, and bank select the roms by toggling Vcc to a given bank of chips? If so, that would make a great daughter board project.

Is it possible to expand the number of games by getting a larger set of games on a single set of roms? Does anyone make such an animal?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer. If there are threads on the topic that I have missed, please feel free to drop a link.

Found this comment that answers one of the Qs:

"If looking for boards they made two types: 1) 3 tier board 2)single tier. They both have their problems but the single tier is the one I would buy. You can also upgarde/downgrade with swaping out the rom chips. If you go this path make sure you are getting the right chips for your board (single vs 3 tier) and apply to your AAMA serial number on your board."

I believe that by three tier, they actually mean three board, two tier..

Also found this. So it is possible to update a 97 or 98 to Classic (2001) depending on the board #.

I wonder why 98, 99, and 2k are excluded from this kit. The Classic rom set is newer than all of those.

Idk all i do know is if you need a new board or roms i have like 10 various gt boards from 95-2k to classic so could probably help you if you needed parts ill get rid of them for cheap. If i remember right the single board was a lot more reliable than the double, and think the classic only used the single maybe even its own single board version

Im not sure what the SFR part is does it have a rom number? Or can you show me a picture of where that chip is on the board ?

I have a crap ton of those chip sets too when boards were upgraded, everyone came in a update box like the one pictured

I will dig through them monday and bench test everyone of them ive been meaning to go through them and put them on ebay anyway and will post what i have

Have you had any luck with this? If it's possible a daughter board with multiple romsets would be great!

None. I threw them all in a slot cage and move the jamma harness through the coin door.
