Ok, I have posted this on other boards, I'll try here. I have a golden tee fore 2003 machine. Everything was working fine until one day, I turned it on, it wouldn't recognize the hard drive, and I heard all this crazy grinding from the drive. Ok, the drive was dead. I went online to get a new drive from ebay (there was only one dude selling them, came with a lifetime warranty), hooked it up, and it would start up, but then reset very shortly after. The furthest I could make would be to the player select screen. I contacted the dude, he sent me another one, no questions asked, hooked it up, the same thing happened (probably used the same image). So now I'm thinking its the image on the drives he sent me, not the drive itself. The voltages are all fine. I hooked a golden tee fore 2005 up to it and it worked great, no resetting. I have read through this post with a similar situation:

Kind of solidifies my believing it was an image thing. So now what are my options? Anyideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

You pretty much did what I would have check by process of elimination. I would have checked grounding, tried another board etc. Sounds like the HD is no good. I'd find another original HD .

contact...IT GAMES directly...they have good tech support...phone # is 1-847-870-7027

there website says they want like $125 for a new hard drive. I could by a 2005 board and HDD set for that price. But there price list also makes me think if I replaced my HDD, that it wouldn't work without a new Boot Rom. Any thoughts?

I've heard people say that a boot rom is matched to a HD, so that might be a possibility. ITS could tell you for sure. Tell them you bought a used HD that was supposed to work, but it keeps resetting. Perhaps you can send it in to them and have them test it for you? Or ask the guy you bought the HD from if they are coming up fine for him, and if so, ask him for a new boot rom or security chip...

BTW - you MIGHT try swapping out your PS just for kicks. It's possible that the voltage is dropping for just a sec with this combo...

As far as swapping PSU's, I had Golden Tee 2005 in there running for prob about 2 hrs with out a freezing/resetting issue, with the 2003 version, it would not run for more then 15-30 seconds.

First off, do you have a green or red board?
What version ROM do you have at U15?

In the meantime, adjust your P/S to +5.2 volts when the game is fully booted, in the attract mode or swap out as Mod. suggested.

funny this post is up again.
Mine is doing the same thing, and I just got a hard drive from the same guy on ebay that the other klover did.

I need to go check my voltages, ground some stuff because I know the trackball is not connected to earth ground. I am a few days from having room to pull this thing out though.
please post if you figure it out, I am sure it will help me out as well.

Its a green board. How do I adjust the PSU? On my other cabinets they have an adjustment, I don't see one on this one. Also, I have Rom version U15V1.07

Got your email, but thought I'd post the reply here to share the info if anyone else needs it.

From your description, the power supply may have been changed, as the green boards used a standard P/S with the +5 volt pot. adjustment as pictured in the first photo. Red boards use an ATX P/S.

Does your board have the by-pass power cable assy. installed? 2nd pic circled in yellow. Due to the current consumtion of the board, the by-pass was used instead of the standard JAMMA connection. If you do have the by-pass installed, measure the voltage across pins 16 and 32 of the U15 EPROM when you have the game booted up at the attract screen. It should measure around 5.1 volts.

The hard drives that you got from Ebay, are they the same size as the original you have or are they larger? If it is larger than 15gigs, I have had to replace the U15 EPROM to version 2.08 to get them to work. Most of the drives I've had to replace in our machines are now 40 gigs. as opposed to the original 10 to 20 gig. This applied to both the green and red boards for 2004, 2005 and 2005 Completes. Don't have any 2003s on the route, but have a matched H/D & board somewhere on the shelf that I could image for you if needed.

Thanks so much for the info Gene, I appreciate it. The hard drives I bought on ebay were actually smaller than the original. My original HDD was 10gig, the one the dude sent me was 8.4gig. He said he found an image that would fit on smaller drives. Would this make a difference? Regarding the PSU and the bypass, yes, I have the by-pass set-up. I will check the reading later today and report back. Thanks again.

After looking at the board, the EPROM chip is not numbered. How do I know which pins are which? Thanks.

I checked the voltages, it is a steady 5.1. I checked on the 2005 board I have and it is the same voltage. Should I try increasing the voltage anyway? Will this effect the 2005 board? Thanks.

From what I have done in the past to the machines we operate, I measure the voltage at the power connector going to the hard drive and adjust for +5.2 volts, even though IT suggests the U15 measurement. The power connector allows my hands to be free to do other things. On reset problems, which may take up to 1/2 hour, the meter records fluctuations in the voltage.

As for your voltage reading being steady, I would leave it unless the game will not boot up and you get the message that "Voltage is too low". I've found some boards are pickier than others as far as voltage goes.

With regards to hard drives, I haven't gone to smaller drives, wasn't able to get them. Most of my replacements have been 20 to 40 gig. I've had some problems with used 10 gig drives, so I opted to use new Western Digitals. On these replacements, they would start loading and would freeze on the "Loading Filesystem" screen, until I updated the U15 EPROM to version 2.08

You said the guy you bought the hard drives from "found" an image that would fit on smaller drives! If he did not image them himself, the checksum of the drive may be corrupted from downloading. This may be a possibility, but I can't give you any info on this. Beyond my scope. Maybe someone else here can chime in and give us the low down.
