Golden axe 1 arcade brightness issue with new monitor

Just have a golden axe 1 and it seems to be to bright,I have already made the proper adjustments no the screen,I replaced the monitor with an LCD and an cga to vga, after fiddling with the pots it still is to bright, bad color palette, could this be a board issue?someone with more experience would be helpful

Is your CGA to VGA converter like this? https://www.amazon.com/Arcade-video-converter-board-output/dp/B00E7HOFOO

I had that problem too when when I first got mine. Took me forever to get the settings right. It wasn't just a matter of turning both up high or down low. It took an exact combo of the clamp settings that I can't recall at the moment. Keep messing with the settings.

Mob: I only use mine for a test bench! Don't burn me.

Golden Axe (and other Sega hardware of that time) does actually have logic in the palette output section of that board that can double (brighter) or half (shadow) the final colour output. If it were to 'stick on' then yes the game would appear twice as bright.

Is this likely? Not really, but is possible - pics would help!

I use LCD's in driver games sometimes, and yes you really have to mess with the settings. Turn down all the color pots on the board, too... and then adjust both clamps.
