Going to try to restore a Tron Mini to working order. Will need some pointers...

Hi, we just was given a Tron Mini Cabinet and the goal is to get it working for our arcade.

I've have had machines that we would get it that would need some minor tweaking or have a machine with a major problem that I would be able to ask for your guys help with diagnosis or just neighborly help on fixing a problem, but I've never been given a non working cabinet game to look over, diagnosis all the problems to be fixed. I'm hoping (with very little trolling remarks as possible) that you guys could give me advice how I should start on this project... maybe a basic checklist of what should be checked out first to see what maybe causing a problem. Any advice would help.

as you can see from the screenshot, the monitor does come on but theres no sound or response from the control panel or the coin mechs.

If you're certain the MCR ribbon cables are attaching the boards correctly, a bad Z80 on the SCPU (or possibly the SSIO) or issues with the MCR power supply will cause that garbage screen. Check the +5 on the board stack and/or leave the game on for about 30 min to see if it restarts correctly (mine would do this). If you have a working MCR PS, try it out and see what happens. If no go, then try the Z80's.

Not a project for a first timer. MCR games are among the fussiest games out there. Always had board problems and they flat *suck* to work on.

First thing....get rid of the battery on the regulator board....the gas it emits will ruin the board. Look below the battery for damage....the gas (potassium hydroxide) is heavier than air and creeps downward. And wrecks everything in its path.

I got it working but there's no sound. Any recommendations? also, it there a light in the joystick that needs to be replaced or have I only seen then glow on custom cabinets?
