PQ: Going through a divorce, can you guys help estimate value on these games?

Hi there,

Long time member on for forum here, and now I need some help.

Regrettably, I am now going through a divorce. I need some help in valuing some of the games in our arcade. I am providing the condition, etc... ANY help you can give would be GREATLY appreciated - and I am open to questions if you have any. I am not looking for ideas to repair the ones that are not working - just their current values as they are if they were for sale right now.

Here is what we've got:

A. Rocky & Bullwinkle Pinball Machine - Data East - Very good condition, works perfectly, gorgeous playfield.
B. Gilligan's Island Pinball Machine - Bally - Side art a little rough, does not work (will not launch the ball into the trough- everything lights up, music is fine, display is perfect, gorgeous playfield.
C. Spy Hunter stand-up - Side art a little rough, good condition overall, does not work. No functions at all - NOT a fuse, just garbled display.
D. Popeye - nice condition, decent side art, display has some "prison bars" showing and may need a cap kit or something.)
E. Stand Up Star Wars - good condition with Clay's Empire Strikes Back kit installed. Works perfectly, side art fair to good condition. Both ESB and SW play fine. Monitor is *gorgeous* with new cap kit installed.
F. Cheyenne cabinet converted to a MAME with original monitor hooked to a PC. Does not work, may be a configuration issue on the PC/monitor - but no picture
G. Homemade MAME cabinet - does not work, may be a configuration issue on the PC/television - but no picture.
H. U.S. Marshall ball bearing shooting game - fair condition, works. Shoot from a gun in the front ball bearings to hit spring loaded targets that appear mechanically in the backdrop.

Thanks guys,

Paul

i went through a divorce too

I went through a divorce too. I actually had to go onto e-bay and Craigslist and print out prices to justify mine.

Needless to say, I went some regional towns on CL and listed my games for a low low price (with a bogus screen name). That way, I could justify "buying her half out" in exchange to her buying out my half interest in her scrapbooking crap.

Sorry to hear about the divorce... but just remember, they cost so much because THEY ARE WORTH IT!!!!

My opinion only:

A. Rocky & Bullwinkle Pinball Machine - Data East - Very good condition, works perfectly, gorgeous playfield.
About $1200.00-1400.00

B. Gilligan's Island Pinball Machine - Bally - Side art a little rough, does not work (will not launch the ball into the trough- everything lights up, music is fine, display is perfect, gorgeous playfield.
About $800.00-900.00

C. Spy Hunter stand-up - Side art a little rough, good condition overall, does not work. No functions at all - NOT a fuse, just garbled display.
About $300.00-400.00

D. Popeye - nice condition, decent side art, display has some "prison bars" showing and may need a cap kit or something.)
About $200.00-300.00

E. Stand Up Star Wars - good condition with Clay's Empire Strikes Back kit installed. Works perfectly, side art fair to good condition. Both ESB and SW play fine. Monitor is *gorgeous* with new cap kit installed.
About $800.00-1000.00

F. Cheyenne cabinet converted to a MAME with original monitor hooked to a PC. Does not work, may be a configuration issue on the PC/monitor - but no picture
About $300.00-400.00

G. Homemade MAME cabinet - does not work, may be a configuration issue on the PC/television - but no picture.
About $300.00-400.00

H. U.S. Marshall ball bearing shooting game - fair condition, works. Shoot from a gun in the front ball bearings to hit spring loaded targets that appear mechanically in the backdrop.
No effing clue.

Sorry to hear about the divorce, Paul.

A Spy Hunter UR in the condition you described? Maybe $100-$150. It doesn't work and with rough sideart, no way it's worth more than that.

It's worth maybe $350-$400 in good condition with it working properly.

It also depends on if it is WG or Amp monitor. What's yours?

id value them all at $10 a piece then quickly sell them to a friend before krap happens.. then get em back later after the dust settles lol...

If you are talking about selling to the general public, I would say, except for the pins, cut Russ' prices in half given the current economy.

Right now, if it isn't a Ms Pacman or a Galaga, video games have almost no saleable value, except to other collectors. Just check CL in your area and look at the posting dates. Everything is sitting with very little movement right now.

F & G, converted non-working MAME cabinets are almost worthless... maybe $100 if you're lucky.

Spy Hunter isn't worth much more if it's non-working as well.

the other valuations seems pretty much on, though R&B might be worth a bit more if the condition really is that nice. those damn pinballs still sell for way too much.

sorry to hear about the divorce; a trying and difficult time even when it's amicable and uncontested like mine was.

I agree, find the lowest priced version you can find and tell them that's what they're worth. You certainly don't want a $10,000 value so you can have 1/2 of it taken away from. Unhook something in all of them so none of them work. Value $10.

Does your wife know about KLOV and your username here? If so I would recommend everyone here that's giving the suggestion of selling them cheap to someone else or breaking them to lower their value stop with those suggestions. It could make things much harder for the OP.

My opinions on pricing:

A. Rocky & Bullwinkle Pinball Machine
$1200

B. Gilligan's Island Pinball Machine
$850

C. Spy Hunter stand-up
$150

D. Popeye
$250

E. Stand Up Star Wars
$850

F. Cheyenne cabinet converted to a MAME with original monitor hooked to a PC.
$200

G. Homemade MAME cabinet
$150

H. U.S. Marshall ball bearing shooting game
$150

just their current values as they are if they were for sale right now.

A. Rocky & Bullwinkle Pinball Machine - Data East - Very good condition, works perfectly, gorgeous playfield.
$1,000 tops. People will say it's worth more, but try to sell it for more, you won't get it. To be honest, I've seen them on CL several times for $800. Not as good condition, but just citing an example.

B. Gilligan's Island Pinball Machine - Bally - Side art a little rough, does not work (will not launch the ball into the trough- everything lights up, music is fine, display is perfect, gorgeous playfield.
$500 tops. Ditto of Rocky & Bullwinkle.

C. Spy Hunter stand-up - Side art a little rough, good condition overall, does not work. No functions at all - NOT a fuse, just garbled display.
$100, probably less.

D. Popeye - nice condition, decent side art, display has some "prison bars" showing and may need a cap kit or something.)
$100 probably less.

E. Stand Up Star Wars - good condition with Clay's Empire Strikes Back kit installed. Works perfectly, side art fair to good condition. Both ESB and SW play fine. Monitor is *gorgeous* with new cap kit installed.
$800 if WG, $900 if Amp.

F. Cheyenne cabinet converted to a MAME with original monitor hooked to a PC. Does not work, may be a configuration issue on the PC/monitor - but no picture.
Yuck sorry to hear of this. $50 tops.

G. Homemade MAME cabinet - does not work, may be a configuration issue on the PC/television - but no picture.
Ditto of F. $50 tops.

H. U.S. Marshall ball bearing shooting game - fair condition, works. Shoot from a gun in the front ball bearings to hit spring loaded targets that appear mechanically in the backdrop.
I know the game, but I'm not an E&M fan so I don't keep up on prices here. I know some E&M games can be pricey, but most E&M games don't command much $ at all. I don't know, $100???

BTW sorry to hear about your divorce. I've been through that before (as a child of divorce) and there is almost nothing worse.

Good luck!

+1 to Joe's estimates, and that's if you had time to let things sit for a bit.

If you were to sell now on ebay, starting everything at a dollar with no reserve, I bet the broken SH and Popeye would go for $50, the MAME cabs for $1 - $20, and everything else for about what Joe said.

The good news is, it won't cost you much to keep your stuff.

If it was me, I might even roll the dice and offer to put each game up on ebay at no reserve, $1, and split the proceeds. Have a friend bid on the ones you really want to keep, up to whatever you are willing to pay for it. If it goes for less, you keep it cheap. If it goes for more or one of her friends shills it up, then you get more money to put toward rebuying the title later.

You could buy any of those games back in similar condition easily, and I bet you come out the winner overall. Especially on the broken games.

i suppose it also depends on what part of the country you live in.

a working Nintendo cabinet (even Popeye or a decent conversion) in the Seattle area will easily bring in $200 due to the large number of Nintendo collectors present. and pinballs are still selling for pretty hefty amounts, but then again with all the tech industry cash around that isn't all that surprising.

I'm not sure if you want the games to be worth a lot or next to nothing in this scenario. If you want them to have a high value get quotes from retailers. If you want low end pricing ask folks here or auctions.
