Going rate for a TZ?

Location really alters the price on this game a lot, but a good condition to mint TZ can range from $2,700 to $3,500 (and up) depending on what sort of mods and upgrades have been done to it.

It's my favorite game of all time and I think it's one of the few pins that's truly worth every cent of the asking price.

I personally prefer no mods to the game. I would do the clock mod where you reduce the heat of the 86 lamps. I only say this because I dispise the way the LED's look in there. I can't stand a TZ that has a rocket, piano, little robot, etc all sticking out at various points on the PF. Same for TAF. Hate all the mods except for fester in chair. He seems to belong there. Let us know if you get the game.

The seller is pretty motivated to move it within the week, but I don't want to overpay. I'll you you guys know what happens.

There are some useful mods for Twilight Zone, and then there are some obnoxious ones. The good mods either improve play, help you see your shots better, or restore stuff that might have been nixed due to cost cutting measures in production. The bad mods don't do anything but get in the way of your view or just add distracting lights and movement.

Useful

- Player piano (helps identify the shot better)
- Gumballs (looks SO much better)
- Clock LED upgrade (reduces heat and wear)
- Camera (this is a hard shot for people to see without it unless they already know where it is)
- Town Square light (identifies the shot)
- Target decals (identify shots much, much better)
- 3rd Magnet (restores game functionality that was nixed after prototype stage)
- Slot scoop reinforcement (VERY smart mod, maybe one of the most vital)
- Cliffy protectors
- Pinball Pro speaker/sub upgrade (sound is a lot better with it, and this game has killer sound)
- Door panel light kit (restores lights that were cut during production from the door panel)

Awful/Obnoxious Mods

- Slot Machine (it's not even on the actual shot and it's just blocking view)
- Robby the Robot (doesn't identify any shots)
- Talky Tina Doll (no point other than to clutter up the place)
- Rocket mod (looks cool, but pointless as there's a rocket on the playfield art right there)

Somewhere in the middle

- Backboard and sideboard decals (look cool, but not really necessary)
- LEDs in the inserts, flashers, backbox (based completely on your opinion of LEDs, but I love them in the TZ inserts...just don't use LEDs for GI)
- Custom shooter/topper (Don't add much aside from visual flair, but they're not distracting either)

I prefer no mods too EXCEPT for the piano. It hides under the clock:

I also like the gumballs and the gumball light kit.

That's a great picture. Thanks for posting it. The gumballs looks very cool!

Jar...thanks for the summary of the good/bad mods.

I'm a convert on the LED's in the clock now. I had only see the bright white to this point. With those warm white in the pic you posted, the clock looks almost stock. When (it will happen) I get a TZ, I'll definitely do that to reduce heat.

Did you look at the one that was on CL near Bedford, IN?
