Go7-cbo monitor with loose Flyback Ferrite Screwing up Galaga Board
I chased this gremlin for more than a few weekends.
Symptom:
Tapping on the side of cabinet would cause the game to go haywire. Sometimes it would reboot, other times random sprites would turn all white, it would start a game with no credits... or it just randomly seemed to jump to different stages of the game.
Cause: The ferrite core on my flyback was slightly loose. Tapping on cabinet was sending vibrations and electric noise back through the Go7 wires to the game board. This noise was causing all kinds of havoc to the game play.
Solution: Gluing the flyback and its ferrite core down has completely resolved the issue.
I must have resoldered and tapped everywhere on the Galaga PCB a hundred times and couldn't figure out what was causing the craziness. Hopefully this helps someone in a similar situation save a little time.
