Hey y'all,

I know there's a few people lurking about that have a Data East Guns N' Roses. Discovered an issue tonight and maybe someone can help me out. I had no speech/certain game sounds for about a year but the music played fine. I bought a new set of roms on feepay and dropped those in. Sure as shit, there's my speech and missing sfx! BUT(here we go...) now the music is screwy. Missing guitar parts here, Axl's vocal missing there, and this weird staticy noise.
What would any pin gurus suggest - bad roms? Soundboard screwy?
I ran the soundtest and checked the rom chips that sounded goofy and swapped them with my old roms just in case...that made quite a racket.
As I am learning with my Q*bert that is perpetually effed up, and now this I'm thinking I'm not smart enough for this hobby.
Any and all help would be appreciated!

Sounds like something is wrong with the sound board? Something is not right for sure.

yeah i know the feeling about not beeing that smart for this hobby.

After thinking about this a little more, I'm assuming that both of my rom sets are bad. Is that possible? Do they ever 'burn' corrupt to chips? The fact that one function works with one set, and another function works with another suggest that the sound board works the way it ought to. Is that a flawed way of thinking?
Did I mention I'm a n00b? (read:idiot)
Still perplexed.

It depends on who burned your ROMS as to if they "burn corrupt". If they ran a verify to verify the checksum, then no.

I would maybe replace or at the least reflow the sockets that your ROMS go into. Most likely this is your problem. Did you try to reseat your ROM chips?

*Update*

Everyone point and laugh at me. I had one of the legs bent up when I installed the chips.

Moron...

GNR is now 100%, owner is less than efficient.

Thanks for your suggestions,
cr
