GNR - Some 'color mods' and my touch-up attempt! (pics)

I'm almost done shopping out my GNR, and felt like sharing some pics of some subtle things I did to the game.

I decided to replace the yellow bumper caps w/ green...since the G ramp is yellow, I thought green looked nice between the two ramps. I also replaced the original lane guides w/ Stern's newer style ones...they leave a wider path through the lane, but I think they look nice:

All the plastic ring posts were black. I thought translucent red
would look really nice...it fits the game, and the light passes
through them nicely. Also replaced the black post sleeves w/ red and
yellow Cliffy's, of course:

Here's the touch-up I did on the wear form the Axl kickout...it's not
perfect, but unless you stuck your face right up to it - you probably
wouldn't even notice it was touched up:

Very nice, how hard was it to get a color match?

What's your secret?

Steve

Well, luckily the Testors yellow and red were a PERFECT match...I didn't have to do anything. Slash's jeans were a bit trickier, and I actually didn't match the blue perfectly, even though I tried like 10 times. It's a bit darker, but the black lines sort of mask the fact that I didn't get the color exact. Unfortunately part of the yellow also had like little orange dots...and while I did a decent match for the orange, I couldn't paint dots that small..so, in that part, it's a bit of an orange dab/smear. If you look up close you can tell ...but - from the players perspective you don't notice so much.

Nice job on the touchups! I love Testors for touchups. Cover great, level well, very durable too. The colors are hard to match sometimes, especially if you need a really BRIGHT color like a neon like color. I did a 5 or 6 color touchup on my Whitewater with Testors and I swear you'd never know it if I didn't point it out.

I don't think the acrylics are nearly as good because they change color when they dry and they aren't durable at all. You absolutely have to cover them or clearcoat afterward.

Color changing ruined my touchups. Most people don't notice but I do. I even tested the color change by coating with clear.

Nice job on the touchups. It can be very difficult to get the exact color match, especially when it dries. I've used a CD case to mix paints on it, and lay it on top of the playfield to see the "color match".

Yeah, I just had some spare clear plastics from other pin projects...I just used those to slap some paint on and put it on the playfield to check my match. I really like using Testors for touchups...as far as I can tell, the color doesn't change at all when it dries. It's durable, but still needs some kind of cover for the long term. I was going to do a spot-clear on this touchup....but I sort of felt like that would wear over time due to the strength of the kickout. I went w/ mylar...I cut it so it works around the black outlines, rather than just a rectcangle....you barely know it's there!

Spot clear wouldn't last... you did the right thing with the mylar.
