GNR Shooter Lane Modification?

My GNR has a gate at the bottom of the shooter lane ... so if a ball does't make it up the ramp it drops back and is re-routed to the drain.

Is this an official modification or some hack?
 
does it 1. count as a ball or 2. since it hasnt hit a switch you get the same ball again? I would think its option 2. which then it would make sense

is it shown here?

Nope... mine looks like this:

Note the gate...

And yeah, when the ball comes back and it immediately drains it re-shoots with no penalty.

I'm not familiar with this game personally, but one look at the official flyer playfield image shows nothing like that gate at all. I believe the posted picture by streetzking would be correct.

Odd hack then?
 
Looks like a hack to me probably a mod done to prevent balls from stacking up in the shooter lane due to the issues that DE was having with the steep incline of the wire ramp, but if the ball just keeps recycling and immediately re-shoots doubt its going to save the coil from burning up if no other action is taken to get the ball into play.
 
The problem wasn't really with 1 ball ... 95/100 it shot 1 ball without issue... but when you hit multiball ...if a ball got backed up it would back up 2...then 3... then 4... and they all would get stuck in there.
 
Whoa! That's a hack. DE made an alternate launch wireform to help out with weak coil issues...but I've never seen that before. Pretty creative hack, whoever did that.

BTW, adjust your flippers...they're uneven. :)
 
It even has the chrome wireform (the updated one vs the original black)...

Oh...and the pic was taken before shopping (which I am about 80% complete with)...

I'll make sure to address the flippers.
