I have searched and looked all over KLOV for an answer to this question but can only seem to find glue removal relating to metal control panels.

What's the best way to remove hardened glue on a wood control panel after the overlay has been removed? I had a thin metal control panel that someone had glued down to the wood. The control panel came off without a problem, but there is glue residue left behind on the wood cp. Do I just use a rough sand paper and an orbital sander? Wire wheel on a drill?

I used goof off and/or sandpaper. I would think a wire wheel would dig into the wood. If the glue isn't gummy (like wood glue) I would just sand it.

I've had decent luck with acetone. For my Robotron, I just slathered the board in acetone, let it set for a minute, applied some more, let it set, then took a scraper to it. It'll come off in globs, does a pretty decent job for me for the price. You'll have to do that a few times, but it should end up taking the bulk of it off, for the residue, just soak a few paper towels in acetone, and keep wipe'ng it till it's where you want it.

It'll take a little bit of time, and do it over some newspaper or something, because it will make a mess... but in the end, it should all come off.

I am right in the middle of restoring the CP on my Sinistar, which is partly metal plate and mostly wood.

After removing the old CPO with my heat gun and a scraper, coat the entire surface in a thick coating of Citristrip, let sit for 2-3 hours until it's all turned white and then use a scraper to scrape off the whole mess. It turns the old hard glue into a thick snotty gel that scrapes right off. Then use a stripper wash to get rid of any residue, sand smooth, wipe down to remove dust and I use a hard polyurethane over the whole wood surface and let dry for a week before applying the new CPO.
