I can see him following me in the rear-view mirror, all the way from Kansas City.

It's... Punch-Out!!

The game that's so good, it deserves TWO exclamation points. This was an eBay deal, and the photos were not the best, so I was very pleased to find a really solid cabinet. Hell, the T-molding is still intact! Pretty clean on the inside, too.

It will need some sideart, the joystick and punch buttons are wrong, the top monitor needs a cap kit, and the coin doors could use some attention, but overall it's a champion. I'm a little puzzled by the power--it appears that everything is running from a switcher with two very thin wires. It looks like I'll need to find an original power supply somewhere.

I never really played this in the arcades, only on the NES. I'm anxious to start honing my skills. Body blow! Body blow!

It looks to be in very nice shape.

About the power: Amazingly, Punch-Out!! runs on 5V only. No -5, no 12, nothing. It's a three board stack, but you can run it with 1 5v power wire (although it's probably not a good idea :) )

I'll be darned. Well, that means the two wires must be +5 and ground. These things look like they're about 26-gauge, definitely not much current handling ability. Thanks for the insight.

I love those old cabs. Two times the radiation for the same price of 25 cents! You dont know how many times a week I say "Pizza Pasta" around the office and nobody knows what the hell I'm saying:)

Quick followup--I opened the bottom door today...

and I got about 20 bucks back in quarters! I cleaned out the inside of the cabinet also, and there was really quite a lot of stuff in there. Here's what I found:

The tokens were from a place called the Fun Factory. Was this a Kansas City place, maybe? Here's a closer view.

What a haul!

Nice. I just got a punchout for $50 and it had $70 in quarters in it. Along with a TON of lint. Must have spent a good amount of time in a Laundry Mat.

Well you've definitely got me beat! My total investment was $420.24 after reclaiming the coin box booty. You'll have to spend that $20 on something special.

Remember to check the dates on those quarters. Quarters, dimes, and half-dollars prior to 1965 are 90% silver :). It's doubtful you'll have any in that lot, as most were pulled from circulation in the mid/late 70's, but it's definitely worth a look as each silver quarter is worth a tad over $5 in melt value today.

fun factory

I remember a Fun Factory at Bannister Mall in Kansas City. There was also a Fun Factory at the Independence Center, but much later than the mid 80's.
Great find!
