Hi, I just bought a hard to find Ghouls 'N Ghosts and was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is an original board. Sorry if the pics aren't the greatest, can take more of a specific part later if needed.

Any help would be great, Thanks!

makes use of mask ROMS so it looks original.
How much and where did you score that?

Thanks for the input.

Was on Kijiji here in Ontario (Canada) for $500 with non-working monitor. Offered $400 and got it shipped to the office. Took a chance since owner couldn't send me pics of the board ahead of time and that it was a 5 hour drive away from me in Ottawa. It's in a Taito Cab, painted black. Think it was Junge Hunt or King.

Since a lot of members here are looking for one, I figured my chances to get one would have to be local.

My thought is that I am pissed I can never find one for a reasonable price. I got the bezel and CPO. If I was you I would sleep with that board very close. Maybe even spoon with it. I know I would!

Lol, I know, already took it out of the cab and packed it away. It's in a fire-rated filing cabinet for now.

I apologize then, that was me. I wanted it bad, since that's the only item that gameongrafix doesn't reproduce for ghouls. But since I lost out it's going to be a part of a 6 in 1 for now.

"SCUBA STEVE DAMN YOU!" LOL!
That's pretty funny. I wish I knew how to reproduce these as I am sure someone would want them. I was just going to sit on it, like the bezel, until I get a cab for it. HOPEFULLY I find one for a reasonable price, but they are always SO expensive or not close to here (MN).

I agree. If you ever get it scanned somehow, I can have a friend re-create it and maybe we can make them available to others.

I will look into it. For real. I actually may start doing this for all the "good" NOS items I get. Same for the GNG bezel. It's in really nice shape too.
I wonder who around here would be able to do it?? I mean, I could take it to like Kinko's.

I will ask my graphic artist buddy in the morning and let you know. I know that it will have to be re-drawn but at least he will have exact measurements to go by.

Looks like a JAPAN GNG board.

The only way to tell if it's original is by checking the numbers on the C board.

It is well known people use original CPS1 hardware to convert other CPS1 games into Ghouls N Ghosts

There's a guy that does this conversion and sells it on ebay every once in a while

Look on your C board there should be a big 160pin chip with numbers on it. It should say:

Capcom
CPS-B-01
DL-0411-10001

That is the Ghouls N Ghosts original numbers

Yes, in fact those bootleg conversions have been circulating on ebay and forums more often than real original boards lately from what I've seen. There have also been some bootleg conversions of Strider on ebay.

The photos in the first post show the mask roms. If it was a conversion from another CPS1 board, they would have used eproms instead of mask roms. There was, however, a second release of the Japanese version, Daimakaimura, which used all eproms.

In this case, the only indicator that it is a real version instead of a bootleg conversion is the official capcom eprom labels, and more importantly, the game-specific PAL security chip that decodes the graphics. On the conversions, a GAL chip is used in place of the original PAL.

Yeah, the difference in ROM boards is also a good indicator too.

Notice that the legit Japanese resale version #2 of GNG uses a 4M JEDEC EP-ROM TYPE B-board. The B-board part ID type has been silk screened on to the board near SOCKET#09 and SOCKET#19.

US boards--boot leg or legit--do not have this silk screening on the B-Board because they use a MASK ROM TYPE B-board instead.
