I have what I believe is a Chinese GnG CPS1 conversion board, I have had it for a while, and it's been fine but recently it started getting really scratchy with the sound and loud pops and then sound would cut out. If you try and adjust the volume pot its really sensitive and gets loud with the slightest movement, if you fiddle with it you can get to work for a bit, but it won't last.
I did take the board out and check the solder joints in the sound area and reflowed them but no change, I also put some DeoxIT on the pot and worked it in. I am not sure it's as simple as a bad pot, but it could be, the sound area looks modified a bit, not sure if that is part of the conversion or just some hacks.
So just wanted to see if anyone has had any similar issues, when I did a search, I found one post that sounded like my issue but there were no replies.
