Ghosts' n Goblins

Started with a waterlogged cabinet, crappy bezel and cpo and ripped side art. Had a new Kortek monitor though.

Cabinet and Hardware:

Built brand new cabinet with dark blue/purple formica
Stripped and powder coated CP, bolts, brackets, speaker mesh, coin bucket
New T-molding
New Locks
New Vinyl Casters
New buttons
NOS Wico joystick

Cosmetics:

Side Art: Had to make my own as the stuff from gameongrafix has LOTs of problems. This was a big project. Scanned side art then fixed all details, color corrected and added bleeds, then plotter cut line around the entire graphic.

Bezel: Original bezel cleaned and buffed, still on the hunt for a NOS one.

NOS marquee
NOS control panel overlay - this was tricky, it was pretty fragile until it was installed.
New inside monitor bezel

Custom Taito coin bezel inserts

Electronics:

Cleanup/restored inside guts: power supply, wire harness, PCB, etc.
NOS 19 Kortek Monitor
New Speakers
Restored power supply
Cleaned boards and wire harness
New Power Cord
New Marquee Light Fixture/Bulb

WOW! Again i am just stunned at the work you do! You do the most amazing restorations! They are better then new!!! Thanks again for sharing them, i love seeing what new game you have done.

Here's a few shots of the process:

measure, tape down and clamp for a week or so to train overlay

Measure and secure side art

hinge in middle, pull back top half of backing

apply top half with squeegee (starting from middle and work your way out), pull backing off bottom half, squeegee that end

remove pre-mask, pull at a very low angle, cut or tear strips if piece gets too big to relieve pressure and not pull up decal

That Dymo cab is different than my dedicated GNG. Notice the top front corner is not straight and the front does not go straight down (like a Robotron cab). Was the original like that or did you just clone the Ghouls Cab you had? Is Mike's Arcade out of NOS GNG sideart as it is still on their site?

All of his games are some of the nicest on the the forums. His attention to detail and skills are fantastic. The amount of highend rebuilds/recreations with new cabs is really taking off over the last couple of years bringing the vid collectors upto the level of the new pin fanatics. Imagine if you walked into an arcade in the 80s and saw that many mint machines. They were beat up even in the early 80s in most cases.

That's a good question, 99% sure it was like this but i built it a long time ago so i may have built it to match the Ghouls which it will be sitting next to.

I contacted Mike last year and he said he has been out for a very long time. I asked him why he still had it on his site but didn't get an answer.. Hence why i needed to remake it.

Yes!! It's formica, (updated description) Stuff is super strong and has an awesome texture. Its so dang close to the original its scary. I went to a factory here that makes it and they had hundreds of samples to choose from.

Really beautiful! Is that purple formica? Did you see the nintendo cab I built and used formica on the sides?

It really is awesome stuff to work with, isn't it?

Also, I hope you don't leave your remote board dangling like that, that is a sure fire way to ruin what looks like a brand spanking new monitor! :D

It looks great, but the dedicated cab I had (which Russmeyers bought and later restored) was the straight side 'Robotron' style. I thought that style personally sucked, and it was made from MDF which made it fall apart rather quickly when on location. So in my mind, making it from sturdier particle board rather than MDF and making it in the same style as the Ghoul N Ghosts cab you built works better for the game.

And I hear you on the side art, Mike never takes it off his site but won't say why or release the files for anyone else to repro it properly. I questioned him about it too. I also wonder why it was so oddly shaped for the style cab it was meant go on. Looks cramped and awkward in that little space, don't you think?

Oh, and with that NOS CPO have you thought about bending some plexi to lay over top of it and protect it from damage and cracking?

Wow, thanks for the kind words, i like this cab better too. I'm using it for all my Data East and Capcom conversions/kits too.
