New member here. Just got my first game (a Rough Ranger game that will soon be changed into another Jamma game). My question is... how do I get rid of monitor burn in? Thanks for the answers.

The burn is permanent, there is nothing you can do to the tube to make it better. You can put a piece of tinted glass/plexi in front of it to minimize the effect.

If you're feeling saucy, you can swap the tube with a tube from a compatible TV set. This is not recommended for beginners though.

a guy told me he had a device that outputted an intense white line that slowly moved across the screen
supposedly it got rid of the screen burn by essentially burning the whole screen equally

not sure if that was good or bad

tried to buy said device but it was buried in a warehouse in South Carolina and he was in Florida. need to find his number again

Dude,
all you have to do is use some monitor burn spray. It works great, it removes even stubborn Pac-Man burn.

Doesn't sound like a good idea, it'll probably make all the colors look washed out and faded. I have heard of burning in the opposite of the image that was burned in - don't know how you would do that but in my opinion that's not a reasonable solution either. TV tubes are cheap and abundant (for now) so it's worth it to learn how to do a tube swap.

You've used this? How does it work? Do you have to open the tube or something? Yeah, it's pricey, but my Tron monitor is very nice, minus Pac burn, and my 720 med res monitor is a little rough. If I could use this on both monitors, it would be well worth it to me...especially since the 720 monitor isn't easily replaceable.

No way that would work. It would burn the whole tube evenly, leaving you with a tube that was still burnt exactly the same way it was before, only worse.

Burning the whole screen will do just that...burn the whole screen. Solutions:

1) replace the tube.

b) tinted plexi

iii) change the monitor to another game

four) ignore it.

Please tell me your joking. lol.

Notice the "dentist" part of my name? What's that tell you I do for a living? My statement is no worse than me hearing, "He's got his Daddy's soft teeth" crap all day long. Just as ridiculous and laughable in my area of expertise...

I assumed that was your profession. That is why I said it was mean to give false hope in a serious manner. Mean.....:)

can we just have like a "RTFM" post stickied that says no, you can't get rid of burn-in with topical creams/sprays/inverted images/etc.; no, putting LCDs in video games made prior to 2006 is unacceptable; and no, you can't run standard resolution games on medium resolution monitors with adapter boards .. ?

that would help out the new critters a lot, I think..

and jedi dentists, who'dathunk? I'd be a dentist too if I could just use the force to get the job done.
