Getting my feet wet... CENTIPEDE wont power up.

You might have damaged the Centipede pcb with 9 volts going through it. You can reseat all the socketed chips and hope for a miracle. Reseat the edge connector to the pcb too.

I think if the next step is to troubleshoot the PCB thats going to be above my pay grade. Checking voltages is one thing. Man's got to know his limitations. I guess I was hoping it was something simple that I could fix and avoid paying to have it done. I gave it a shot and Im glad I tried because I learned some things. But when it comes to troubleshooting the PCB I guess I will just bring it to our local Arcade repair guy. Hopefully it wont cost too much to fix it. He was very reasonable price wise when he fixed my DIG DUG. I want to thank you guys for getting me this far. I learned a lot and I appreciate it.

reseating socketed chips is easy . I would at least give that a try before giving up. If that doesn't work I would look for a working board. Yours could be pretty messed up from 9 volts.

Sweet thread, I have this same kinda story, same scenario same centipede I just have a looked into so keep us updated.

I would swap out the CPU and the pokey (yes, the pokey, as some data lines to ram run through it) with known working ones as a quick check. But, as Arc pointed out, the 9v could have killed a few things.

This. You have nothing to lose at this point. Perfect board to cut your teeth on.

Ok here is a small UPDATE... I have a working AR2 board coming in the mail from andrewb. And Im also in the process of purchasing a CENTIPEDE PCB from brzezicki. Here is my question. Once the AR2 shows up my plan is to install it and use the faulty existing PCB as a test dummy just to check the +5V on the PCB and adjust it if needed before install the new PCB im getting from brzezicki. That way my voltages are checked before introducing the working PCB. Is that a good plan? Thanks.

P.S. The reason I ordered a new PCB is because I plan on using the old PCB to learn on.

Good idea.

Update... Ok , today I received the AR2 from andrewb and the new BIG BLUE from Arcade Adventures and I installed them both. I powered up the cabinet with the existing PCB with problems just to test that the AR2 is sending the correct voltage to the PCB. Hooked my meter on the PCB at +5v and Ground and it reads:

My new PCB from brzezicki is slated to be delivered on Wednesday. My hope is to install the new PCB and power up the cabinet and just start playing!!! I'll let you guys know what happens. Thanks. Mike

I already took it apart. Rollers and bearings were just nasty. Cleaned all the plastic and ordered a rebuild kit and Snow white ball , all of which should be here like Thursday.

Open the track ball and see what the rollers look like
