So I'm trying to figure out how to gain access to the OS in a Fast and Furious so I can add some audio and video drivers to the system. Long story short, the original hardware that the game runs on is REALLY old at this point and is hard to come by (Socket 462 GeForce 6150 boards). The software loaded on a newer AMD based Dell but the sound doesnt work and the top video card I can use is a GeForce 7300LE.

When I try to boot to safe mode I get a BSOD. I've pulled the drive from the game and put it in another WinXX computer and tried to modify the file structure (trying to keep the game exe from loading) and the system locks up.

Thoughts?

I also had this question posted to another forum here but figured it qualifies for this forum.

I wonder if you booted from and old dos like dos 6.22 if you would be able to navigate around the folders with the command prompt and add drivers to the folders as needed.Or maybe boot from a linux cd.

I'm pretty sure that the drive is formatted as an NTFS partition so booting into DOS wouldnt work. I can boot with a Live WinXP CD and gain access to the drive so thats not the issue. The issue is installing the drivers in the right locations.

I've done quite a bit of XPe development but your problem doesn't seem to be embedded related.

So are you only trying to add a video driver or are you trying to get that software package to boot on another main board?

If you're just trying to add the video driver probably the best this to do is install the video card and driver into another XP (assuming it's XP Embedded Standard and not Win7) box...go into driver details and get a list of the files that make up the 'driver' There will be .inf .sys .dll and possibly some CAT files.

Then copy those files into their appropriate Windows directories..

C:\Windows\inf INF
C:\Windows\System32 .dll
C:\Windows\System32\drivers .sys

Right click on the INF and chose 'install'...that should add the registry entries.

If you trying to add the hard drive to a new mainboard that a whole different animal

Edit:..I think I misread your problem. They probably didn't install any safe mode components...thus the BSOD.

My very first move would be to back that drive up VIA ghost or somthing do ya don;t wreck it

Tell me what you get when you boot the HD on the other system. Do you have KB and mouse interaction? Can you use hot keys to maneuver? Does the frontend load? Can you get to the task manager by alt ctrl del and end task on the 'game'?
