Ok. So I traded an arkanoid for a Pac CT that was converted to Ms. Pac at some point. It had a monitor problem at least. There was no sound when I tried coining it up so I wasn't really sure of the real problems. The sound was just a loose wire. I used the monitor testing harness I got from Dokert and found that the game worked event though I need to change the harness (wires soldered directly to the pcb).

Anyway, that stuff was the good part. The bad part was that the original monitor pic was shrunk, extremely white, and rolling. I noticed the monitor was a GO7. But then I was like, "WTF is this"? It has some modifications to say the least. Here are the pics:

I have a parts 13" chassis I can pull obvious parts off of. This chassis along with a rebuild kit and I may be able to put it back to original form. What do you guys think I should do?

At risk of losing my entire garage to a fiery explosion caused by a faulty hackjob, Id pull some usable parts/caps off it and pitch the rest.

I kinda need the chassis to get the CT running again. The monitors I have won't fit and if I can return it to normal it'll save me cash.

Is that flyback the right part number for a GO7? I'm wondering if some genius had one that was pretty close but not exact and hacked it in because it wouldn't fit the board, then found that it didn't work properly and gave up on fixing the monitor. Did this thing ever have a proper picture that you know of? I give whoever did it an A+ for hack jobs, that's the damnedest one I have ever seen.

According to the guy I got it from it worked properly for the last 5 years in a youth center until some kids kept tripping over the power cord. He said after that the screen was all messed up.

Its definitely not the right flyback. The reason it is mounted like that is because it has too many pins to fit on the pcb. Notice this GO7 doesn't have the seperate screen and focus adjustment. They are on the flyback on this one.

Hehe. I like that. I like that a lot. Nothing better than a clever hack job, and this one was well done. I'd just leave it as-is, and try to figure out why the picture is shrunken. Sounds like the B+ is just too low. Check the B+ voltage, and if you can't get it to adjust, replace the regulator transistor.

Wow! That is a hack. I'd go look in the for sale section or send a PM to the G07 Master Chris (chris25810) and see if he has one for sale. Those are the obvious hacks. I would be worried about the not so obvious ones.

There is a real risk of soft x-rays if the HV isn't controlled properly. I would never run a monitor without the correct flyback for that reason.

I'm going to bet that the x-ray protection circuit on that chassis is also disabled along with the other hacks they did to get it to run at all.

Scrap it, or fix it with the right parts, but don't run it the way it is. Too much at risk; besides the obvious (fire), you don't want to mess with cancer down the road.

It's easy enough to check the HV with a HV probe. I personally would not be worried about a fire or X-ray risk. For one, there's not a lot of X-rays going to exit the leaded glass picture tube, and two, any that do would likely be easily blocked by the game's face glass.

Check your B+, see what it is. Honestly, I know it's a hack - but you guys are a bunch of worry-worts. It's just a monitor, it's not dangerous.

If you don't want that chassis, let me know - I'll take it off your hands :)

Don't forget you can pull the tube and chassis off of the frame in the cabinet and mount most any other 19" tube and chassis on it. I have done this quite a few times.

Sounds like a giant headache to try to put i back to normal. Send it off to somebody who works on those all the time.

Everything is just pulled off the board with wires going to certain spots. Just remove the parts and wires, then solder the originals back where they should be...

Or, just fix the B+ supply to get the picture back, and leave it alone. It worked at one point, it can work again.

It's going to be a royal pain to find the parts to put it back. The focus divider assembly has been replaced. Good luck finding one of those. I inadvertently bought three G07 chassis missing flybacks... I didn't realize from the picture that they were also missing the focus dividers. Had no luck locating any.

By focus divider do you mean the seperate piece with the focus and screen adjustments?
I have a parts chassis I can grab one off of.

I plan to put it back to original. I have some of the parts I need already and the rest I can get from bob. I've mapped where everything should go using another chassis. The only thing I need to look for is where that resistor that is soldered to the flyback goes. I need to see if he pulled it out of circuit or just used another.

I thought about putting another monitor in the frame but then I was like "This is a G07. I need to rebuild it." I did the frame swap thing with my frogger. It had a MC2000S in it originally and I put a Polo in the frame instead. It had a much larger chassis so I had to mount the chassis to the inside wall of the cab. Functional until I figure out the MC2000S. I have two that give me headaches now....

It'll be a small project but I feel priveleged to own a game that was once worked on by MacGuyver.

Yeah - but think of how cool it'll be to keep that monitor MacGuyver'ed... Just fix the B+ supply and be done with it. The flyback and HOT are not your problem - they're still working fine.
