General tests to put your machine through?

I have a Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition, that the power turns on (and the light bulb behind the marquee turns on), but it just doesn't work. No screen, no sound or anything. What are some general tests I can put it through to find out what's wrong with it?

Thanks.

Check the power supply output. The best thing to do is to check the power at the board. Use the pinout on page 7 of this manual to see what power should be applied where. http://www.crazykong.com/manuals/SFIICE.man.pdf

Look at the monitor to see that it has neck glow. The back of the monitor is the neck and in a dark room it should be obvious if it lights up or not.

One other thing you can do without a meter is to coin up the machine after turning it on. It is possible that it is playing blind and coining it up may start the sounds playing. If sounds can be heard after coining up the game then the monitor is the problem.

First thing I would check is the power supply. Verify that you are getting 5v out of it. Look at the neck of the picture tube, see if it is glowing. When you power off the game after it's been on for a minute, does the screen flash?

The first question is, do you have any know-how with working with electronics at all? If you don't yet, or don't have a multimeter, then we can help steer you on things to do which don't require a meter (some have been pointed out by both Oryk and Retro).

Another big question is, does the game have any "interlock switches" on the back where the back door panel would go? And another question relating to this, did it come with the back door panel? The switches will look like the below pic:

If you are getting the marquee to light up, that's definitely a good sign that there aren't problems stemming from the interlock switches BUT, it helps us in helping you if we know this kind of info as well.

Thanks for your patience, no I don't have much experience with electronics. I have an ohmeter (looks more or less like http://vibration.com/v2/images/model109.jpg) but I don't really know how to use it, or if it'll even help in this situation. How do I test for 5V?

When I turn it on, the neck doesn't light up, and when I turn it off after a few minutes, the screen doesn't flash. I put in a quarter and nothing happened (maybe it takes tokens?)

I'm not sure what I'm looking for with the interlock switches. I'm posting some pictures so that maybe you can see. Also, in the first picture I circled a portion of a black wire. When I test for electricity, this is the only wire I'm getting a response from.

Thank you again, I appreciate the help.

You need to take your meter, set it to read volts DC on the 20 volts scale and try to test for power coming out of the silver box on the bottom of your first picture. I believe I am seeing the color coding label for the box in the picture. Ther eshould be an output power of +5vdc, +12vdc, and possibly a -5vdc. Verify these voltages are present.
