hey fellas...

i think the monitor in my area 51/max force game may be in need of a cap kit....the screen is horribly "washed out" (greyish-looking, colors are all nasty) and it's dark as hell. it didn't used to be like that...i tried adjusting it, but it doesn't get any better.

so my "general question" is, is this a cap kit problem? or something else?

and on a related note, does anyone know if the monitor being that badly washed out would cause the guns to stop functioning properly? like i said, everything used to work fine, but it seems that the guns stopped working around the same time the screen went all wonky. all the guns will do now is "reload"....even when pointed at the screen, they will not register a hit, it just always reloads (like when you point it away from the screen normally).

thanks in advance, fellas.

It could be caps but it sounds like the flyback may be going as well, I'd most likely replace both.

The gun problem is directly related to the washed out colors. The guns "see" a color flash on the screen in order to register a hit. It the colors aren't working properly then the guns will not register hits.

These games require the proper brightness from the monitor and clean glass to work properly.

If you don't know the history of the particular monitor installed in your cabinet, then it would certainly be a good idea to recap it and inspect the ciruit board for bad solder joints.

Clean both sides of the monitor glass/plexiglass as well as the face of the monitor picture tube. Do with the power off.

Get a cap kit and Flyback from Bob Roberts thats a good inexpensive starting point.
