Alright, here's my situation:

I've been collecting computer monitors for some time. Wasn't really thinking about using them for arcade purposes, but it's crossed my mind here lately.

Which monitors would(or could be altered to be) be compatible with classic games(pre-90s)?

I've currently got a Commodore 1702, a stack of 1084s, some C=64 compatible Sears model, the VGA monitor that I got with my Amiga 4000T, some regular VGAs, and even some VGA level flat screens.

The Commodore monitors(and the Amiga one) all work. The VGAs I recently acquired(free) and haven't tested yet. Same with the flat screens.

Before anyone asks, I haven't opened any of the working monitors to find out what make/model they are.

I don't think they'll work, arcades use cga. They also have 2 focus pins so tube swaps are a no go. You'd have better luck with sony pvms. I used one for a spectator monitor on my dk.

I think the 1084 can take an analog RGB signal, which is what an arcade game would output. So you might be able to decase it & slap in a machine, but it would have to be a cocktail or cabaret cab.

The rest aren't useful for arcade stuff at all.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the VGA ones, but figured they probably wouldn't work. The lower end Commodore and Amiga monitors I figured probably would, it's just a matter of how to make it happen. They are a bit small, though.... but I'm thinking about putting them in the Poker machines I'm slowly getting around to converting. In that case, they should be fine unless something better comes along.

Thanks guys! :D
