General monitor question

Hmm... the last 70% of this thread was several guys trying to help you... specific questions were asked that you didn't answer.... pictures of the screen burn and game display were requested and never shown... then a member gives you(perhaps a bit forcefully) some specific and good advise to teach yourself how to more effectively repair monitors(which you mentioned you had interest in)... and you SNAP and BLAST the guy and call him names....

Real classy.

Keep in mind... the guys that ask for help and refuse to listen to what they're told and won't answer the questions they are asked by those trying to help are the same guys that eventually don't get a response to future questions. I saw at least one knowledgeable member that tried to help but dropped out as you continued not answering questions asked. Not that you asked, but just my 2₵... take it or leave it.

Journy the guy said shut the F at me first. On Christmas day. That is real classy no?

Here is an example of tube with burn bad enough it was really distracting. I could tolerate it for the 1943 game but it was very visible even while playing. I was adding a multi-game solution and the idea of playing another shmup while the 1943 logo was floating on the screen wasn't going to work for me.

I decided to do a tube swap on this monitor from a 19" consumer TV and now it's completely burn free and beautiful — and the cab plays almost 50 iconic vertical 2-button shmups.
wow thats bad.

Post some pictures of the tube. Yes you can swap it with a compatible tube. Did you have it shipped? $600 is a lot for a g07 I would expect it to be mint with no screen burn at that price, even then it would still be high.
You say it should be mint. You are the only one. Others are blasting me on this thread for saying I got ripped off. I will take pictures of the screen tomorrow

The pictures in this ad were the monitor you received right?

Looking at it I don't see really see "bad screen burn", maybe a hint of it on the left side but doubtful that would really be visible during gameplay.

Regardless, I don't think @jjhudgins presented it as a 100% burn free tube and even tubes that have excellent picture can have some burn in. Like the monitors in my Klax and Tempest look basically burn free until you shine a flashlight on em and the extremely light burn in becomes visible.

Before running out and just buying more parts, just changing out the chassis isn't gonna fix your other monitor if the issue is something like the tube needs to be deguassed or the yolk has a purity issue. You haven't posted any pictures of one of your monitors running, or attempted to adjust your first monitor, so it's difficult to tell what your actual issue is.
I have the remote on the bestech. Adjusted that . Colors bad. There are more pots in the back.

It has been very difficult to get you to answer questions or respond to what is asked like for example pictures of the screen burn. Now I think the screen burn is probably minor and most monitors have some amount of burn. But $600 for a g07 is ridiculous and it doesn't even work 100% it should not be blowing fuses when the degaus coil is plugged in. Some monitors are worth a lot like vectors or medium res 19" but a g07 is one of the most common monitors out there. The seller was obviously looking for someone with little to no knowledge on monitors and value. Still no one forced you to buy it and you should have asked more questions like is there any screen burn. Hopefully you learn from this but I do think the seller should at least fix the monitor for you or kick you back some money for it not working properly.

Thank you! The board does not see it that way. That is a lot of money I went for. And yes it blows fuses if the degauss cable is in meaning that's a defect. And there is screen burn. And it is noticeable during play . The seller has not offered anything. And for sure he is seeing these messages as it it Jason hudg. He sells a lot of monitors. He should give me back some money. Yes I just learned my lesson.

Just send me a go7 monitor minus the frame and chassis burn free. Or give me back 200.00. You have plenty of monitors.
I'm still not sure you even understand what you're asking for.

Monitor: The entire video display assembly, consisting of a picture tube, a mounting frame, a deflection board (chassis), neck board to connect the chassis to the tube, degauss coil, the whole thing. Usually when someone mentions a "CRT" they are referring to the entire monitor.

Tube: The actual picture tube. The massive glass vacuum tube that displays the picture. Technically this is the actual CRT, the cathode ray tube. But since most people call the entire monitor the CRT, this component is usually called the tube. It has a dimple for installing the chassis' anode cup, a neck pin connector that attaches to the chassis neckboard socket, a glass face that you view the image on, and a special paint coating on the back side that conducts electricity as part of its function like a bit capacitor. A wire or spring is wrapped around the back side of the tube to connect that metallic paint coating to the neck board with a ground wire.

Frame: the literal metal frame that holds the tube and chassis and makes the monitor one cohesive unit that can be picked up and moved. It provides the mounting points to install it in a game.

Chassis: The main circuit board which includes the power circuitry, the flyback transformer, the deflection circuitry to create the image raster, and usually most or all of the adjustment pots. Usually most people would consider the "chassis" to include the neck board but when someone says "chassis" they are usually talking specifically about the main circuit board.

Neckboard: The smaller circuit board, connected to the deflection board, which interfaces the deflection and power circuitry to the neck of the tube. Usually considered part of the chassis, but it is a separate board and could be disconnected or swapped.

Flyback: The large power transformer on the deflection board that takes the primary power voltage and generates the multiple high voltages the monitor needs to create a picture

Isolation Transformer: This is a component of the cabinet itself, and not on-board the monitor. Most vintage monitors need this to isolate the utility power from the monitor's power circuitry in order for it to operate safely.

Hopefully this helps with some of the terms since I think you may still have some confusion there.

That helps yes the tube please

@summersquall22 I really do want to see you have a working game and I really do want you to be happy with your monitor. However, it's borderline maddening trying to help you.

I've said this before but I feel compelled to say it again:

There are some really great and highly-knowledgeable members here trying to help you. Even the the ones telling you something you don't want to hear. They are testing you to see how thick your skin is. Not because they are bullies or trolls. But because they want to see what you are made of. Because you need thick skin to be in this hobby or you will not survive. Snowflakes get run off this forum, and for good reason...they can't hack it in this hobby.

And thick skin doesn't mean "fighting fire with fire". It doesn't mean calling someone an A-hole because they called you and A-hole. It means being humble and knowing you are a novice and will make mistakes. Own those mistakes and move on. Learn something and don't just expect everyone around you to help you at every single issue you run across. People want to help people that are willing to help themselves.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Nobody here owes you anything. It is not a right to be on this forum, it is a privilege. And if you alienate everyone here, you will have a very hard time getting help. And good luck finding help anywhere else like Facebook. They will either give you garbage advice, or kick you out of the group for being a colossal time-waster.

And another thing...sometimes you need to understand that we are trying to not just help you get whatever you want, or just tell you what you want to hear. You don't even know what you want because you don't even know if it is realistic or possible.

So sometimes you ask a question and we have to say "whoa! Slow down dude...we need to take like 5 steps back and explain why the question you are even asking doesn't make sense" So again, we are not always trying to help you just skip right to the answer...we are trying to set expectations. This hobby takes an IMMENSE amount of PATIENCE. So having a lack of patience and knowledge at the same time is a recipe for trouble and it's playing out in real-time here.

Journy the guy said shut the F at me first. On Christmas day. That is real classy no?
No need to defend me here guys. But while I myself don't mind being called an asshole, you aren't going to make any friends here calling names.
And yes while it was harsh, I can't be the only one being frustrated by the profound ignorance displayed.
I suppose I could've substituted words like fucking with "for the love of god research a little".
And shut the fuck up with "discuss this with the seller before whining to all those in this thread trying real hard to help you, help yourself. The issue you have is between you and him.
And if you want his attention either PM him about it. Or put the @ in front of his handle spelled correctly and it will alert him that he is being mentioned in a thread . "
I he's a dick or a saint to you after that then come back here and rant about it. "

Do understand though. While many here agree that the price was too high for that monitor, ones with no screen burn are not just sitting around on shelves waiting to be sold and the few that are the sellers are not willing to ship tubes. If they are are selling and shipping one with no burn they will almost always blatantly advertise as such because it will demand a higher price. And or be bought in a heartbeat by the long line of people who either want or need one .

With that said I will leave this thread . My forehead is flat enough from the facepalms .
Him Ralphie KLOV Santa.

Closing arguments R vs JJ
While I shelled out six hundred dollars for what was called a beautiful monitor, albeit you have to run it without the degauss cable and some natural overtime screen burn, I guess I just did not do enough research or ask enough questions. Yes I could have asked is there any burn? But I blatantly did not. It's not whose dick is bigger it is about, hey I see your posts and I'll give you fifty bucks back or when come due I will recap for free. I won't hold my breath. I'll be the bigger man. And to the klov members, I'm not going anywhere. I donated a hundred dollars to our community. With that said I think I'll go play a few games of missile. Peace out guys

Whoa friend.

What is the definition of "a beautiful monitor?"

The devil as they say, is in the details. If you wanted a CRT that was burn free, you should have ASKED if the "beautiful monitor" has a burn-free CRT. Otherwise, you are assuming, and you know what happens when you do that.

So take a big breath here. Understand that attacking members is not going to work here - people will just block you.

Asking for help: good.
Providing answers to people who are trying to help you: Good.
Being polite to a fault: good.
Understanding the terms of a sale: Good.

For example, if you buy a board from one of the sellers here, he warranties his work for 2 years. He burns in his boards. And he defines his warranty in his sales offers.

Unless the seller of the CRT offered such statements, your purchase is as-is, where-is. No warranty is expressed or implied.

You are demonstrating something called "buyer's remorse." Taking that out on the seller is just not right.

As I have said, you need to slow down. Take stock of what you have, and what you want. Understand exactly what you are looking for, and then see if you can find it.

For example, I see you looking for another chassis (ironically with the same seller you are not being kind to here.)

What is your intent in this purchase?

Do you intend to:
1. Take your original CRT (which was burn-free, but with focus and color purity issues) and install the chassis on that?
2. Use your new CRT (or another one you have bought,) and transfer the tube to that?

The reason I'm asking is for purity issues and focus issues sometimes those are TUBE related, not chassis related. You have to know what to adjust on the tube to resolve those issues.

So if you buy a chassis under those assumptions, you are likely to end up with another disappointment and more buyer's remorse.

So let's SLOW DOWN here.

What exactly are your plans: Please be specific, and because you have so many things flying around, be very DETAILED in your plans. Perhaps we can find a way to help you without having more drama here.
