is the Gauntlet tall side art project fizzled out? anyone else have scans? i wouldn't mind trying my hand at vectoring, if i can program cabinets, i can vector artwork.

Hey mate,

Yes its dead. I was doing it (you replied on Coinop) but someone said that the original scans had surfaced and there was a chance they would be used for a new run. So I gave up after spending many hours clicking.

i wouldn't count on it.. they may have surfaced. That means they MIGHT get printed in the next 10 years. You were doing absolutely awesome work on that project, shame to not finish it! Both art sides are mirrored correct? so you only have to vector one side?

I'd be happy to pick up where you left off if you want to share.

Thanks mate.

When I saw the post about the screens I was a bit shattered. I was expecting prints using those screens to be available by now, but like you said, it might be in 10 years!

I would love to finish it as I have spent a lot of time on it especially after I lost the first drafts :( Yep both sides are the same. Let me have a look at where I was and I will get back to you.

Sweet?

sounds good, i just bought a boardset, trying to convert a Guantlet II back from a crimefighters!

I know you guys have seen this other thread, but that is where Scott Evans was looking to pull the films out of storage in "December" of 2010. Darin said he would be willing to have them screened if they were found.

I guess we should check to see if Scott ever found them and if not, you guys could then proceed to vector the artwork.

Teaser on the detail:

*no colour matching/corrections have been done* :p

Cheers!

I have added a lot more detail than the original especially with the clouds/smoke background and the shading on the characters, actually everywhere!

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing? Probably bad for the purists but this is a repro after all ;)

Here is a screen grab of the original:

Pardon my ignorance, as I don't know much of anything on replicating this stuff, but why is it necessary to do this from scratch? Why can't you just resize the smaller art that's already available?

I was just getting ready to order the short side art for my cabinet.... Guess I'll have to put that on hold until this gets done now that I know it's back on track! Awesome job and thanks!

'cause the small art isn't anywhere near high enough resolution - blown up it becomes very pixilated and looks comeplete crap. Here is an example of what you would get if you did as you suggest:

Detail. I want more detail. That's about it really.

I have a Gauntlet and so does a friend. I restored his but I couldn't find the tall art anywhere so I started the redraw. The original files corrupted on me and I gave up. Then I started again and I heard the screens were going to surface and 18 months later they still haven't. So here I am :) Even if they show up tomorrow, I am continuing for him and myself.

The file available online is a vector Mike but it's hideous. I don't want that on my cab :)

I love threads like this. I wish someone would do a series of "how to" videos on hand vectoring arcade graphics.

Excellent work Spacies.

Agreed... Even though I'd likely never take on the chore of replicating art myself I enjoy learning about the process.

Great job and thanks for taking this on.

Wow. I have never seen the full art work. I may have to get a set and start looking for a Gauntlet cabinet.
