just purchased a Gauntlet pcb for my 4 player machine and it looks like it is a 2 player board. It looks exactly like my other board but will not coin up on the right side. Also set it on Free Play and still nothing. I thought it might be a bad connection but in the dignostics it will show all the switches working on that side. Did a little research and learned that there is a 2 player version (I did not know this). Some where I read that it was a chip or eprom swap for the 2 player to 4 player. Does anyone know if this is true and what chips? My other pcb semi works it just does not show the scenery in the game but the characters show up. Thanks for any help on this.

Use MAWS.

Look up Gauntlet in there and find one of the 2 2-player versions (that aren't Japanese/German) and look at the list of ROMs. It will show you which ones are the ones that are different for the game you have.

Can I get a picture of the board?
I've owned close to 6 or 7 of these machines as well as a 2-player version cabinet and the boards are exactly the same.
The only thing that was different in the 2-player version cabinet was the 1 and 2 player harness was the only thing there.
The 3 and 4 player pin outs on the board were not used, but the board was still a 4-player board.

If it's a 2-player version, it would let you choose which of the 4 characters you want to be when you start. Does yours do that?

yep that is what it does---pretty sure it is a 2 player board--the board looks identical to the 4 player board--does anyone know what chip or chips I could swap?

--I found this on some blog site--

Technical

Main CPU: 68010. Sound CPU: 6502. Speech IC: TMS-5220C
The game's architecture is similar to that of the Atari System I games (e.g. Marble Madness).

This game was also released as a two-player upright whose program code differed in only a few of the EPROMs and used a different slapstick security chip.

looking at the maws site that channelmanic linked for you it is 4 roms that are different. 9a, 9b, 7a, 7b. However if the revision is different you may have to swap all the roms.
And if what you found on some blog site is true then the slapstick as well.
If you still have the same problem on the new board with the old chips then you need to start burning roms (or cleaning the legs of).

Are you sure it isn't Gauntlet II?
Even 4-player versions of Gauntlet II allowed you to choose your character.
The title screen or top-right corner of gameplay screen should make it clear if it's II.

Resolved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

got it working--swapped out chip 9A 9B 7A 7B and the slapstick chip--it now plays 4 player Gauntlet--have a semi working 2 player gauntlet board if anyone is interested in it--

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!!!!!!
