I hate monitors... Probably because I know next to nothing about repairing them!

Anyway, the red in the 27" monitor in my Gauntlet decided to crap out. I'm not positive it's the stock monitor or not, but the tube itself says "Zenith" on it. It's a medium res as well. I assume designs on these monitors are similar to one another so maybe the brand is irrelevant. In any case, can anyone think of a simple (relatively speaking) fix for this? Better yet, where I can get any potential parts online?

Thanks in advance!

is it a neotech by any chance? me and someone else had similar problems and it wasnt the tube, never found an answer either. My tube was also zenith

Would neotech be written on it somewhere? ...When I looked earlier I didn't see any other markers. :-/

jiggle the rgb connector at the chassis and see if the red flashes back, it could be broken solder or something easy at the connection

It actually USED to flash red, but once I actually removed the PCB from the yolk to take a peek it stopped flashing red altogether and stayed off completely. Similarly, I tried wiggling the transisters a bit to no avail, figuring it might be a cold solder joint or the like. Just a green/blue picture now!

Ready to just start using LCD's from now on! ;-)

Resolder the drive transistors and the large resistors on the neck board. For some reason these medium resolution monitors seem to run those parts really hot - I've seen some completely cook the traces on the board. It's also possible the drive transistor failed, but since you said it was flickering red before you unplugged/reconnected it, I'm leaning towards cold joint or cracked trace.

DUN DUN DUUUUUUN! Hope you know somebody with a rejuvenator...

I'd switch the color drive transistors around, swap say, red with green, see if the missing color changes. If not, next step is to test the tube with a rejuvenator, as Zenith tubes are known to be problematic. If the tube is fine, you've gotta figure out why the color signal isn't reaching the CDT...

I had the same problem on my Gauntlet Dark Legacy, the red on the monitor would go in and out. Turns out it was not the monitor, it was the Gauntlet DL board. The board comes in 3 pieces, and the connections between them were a little off.

Have you tested another jamma PCB in the cab to see if the problem is still there? I'd suggest you try it, if there is red then the problem is your PCB.

I just had to take the 3 PCB boards apart and clean the connections and it fixed mine.
