Hello everyone, its awesome that an active community like this exist still, and I'm glad to be here for it. I just started collecting arcade games this year and am hooked. My first pickup was this beautiful Gauntlet Legends arcade that the original owner was having issues with. At first he wanted full price, but then messaged me 2 weeks later to state he would take about 30% less. He gave me a full transparent history of the Cabinet, its maintenance , housing situations, etc. Here is his full summary: OG Owner: "This machine has been around me for quite a while so I can tell you quite the detailed history with 100% transparency. So this used to be my friends machine. He owned it for about 5 years total. He was in the military in Florida. It worked 100% When he got out of the air force he moved back to Oklahoma. The military paid for everything to be moved back so they we're responsible for moving the game. When it arrived in Oklahoma the game would play for a while then eventually just go black. So he had the military pay to send someone to come fix it since they moved it and broke something. It worked for a while after that, but would have random problems. He never really messed with it much after that. He moved houses and decided instead of them moving it from house to house that I could have it. When I got it, it still didn't work. I had a guy in OKC that does monitors do a full workover on the monitor boards. After that was done then game still wouldn't play. That's when I discovered after some troubleshooting the original hard drive had gave up and was no longer spinning. I replaced the original HD with a CF card and upgraded it to Dark Legacy along with Dark Legacy roms. After the upgrade the game still didn't want to boot. (The game lives over at my brothers house, he has kids and extra space) He randomly decides to turn it on after about a month and the game boots right up. That game has been running at his house for about 2 years now. My nephews fire it up about every other month and play it with no issues. I've had the game listed for a while but cant seem to get anyone to ever show up to buy it. (I've been stood up about 12 times at this point) This is about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Finally I've got a guy that is supposed to be on the way. I go over turn on the game to make sure everything is good. The game boots and plays but it is crazy glitchy on the screen. (I can send videos of what it was doing) The game still plays but it looks weird. I do all the menu test's and it looks totally normal in all the tests, and looks normal in the menu. So the problem clearly isn't with the monitor or monitor board. It only does this when the game is booted. I go back over the next day to do more testing, turn the game on and get nothing, total black screen. I realized it's giving the same error as a couple years ago when the hard drive died. I found through some multimeter testing the voltage that runs the CF card is pretty high. I turn it down on the power supply to the normal level, and order a new CF card figuring the old one got burnt up with the high voltage. That pretty much brings you to now. So the game is currently just black with a HD error showing on the board. I haven't touched the game since putting in the new CF card. Keep in mind this is the same thing it was doing when I originally swapped the HD for the CF card. Once again 100% transparency I did absolutely nothing to fix it that time. It sat for a month and randomly worked one day. I fully believe either the Rom chips need to be replaced from the high voltage (since I only replaced the CF card this time) or there is a cable that has a short or is not seated correctly somewhere. But I am done messing with it and my brother wants it out of his way." I read all this, decided to take my chance because this would be amazing for my first authentic arcade (the others I own are all reproductions), and this is one of my two favorite arcade games. So I get it home and here's where my testing lead so far.

So as mentioned, The game is fully playable. Barring these super weird glitchy effects, It works almost as if its suffering no issues, and you can play for a couple hours from my testing so far and it all functions. When I first got it I was a bit afraid to start poking around in there, don't have much experience in this area yet, but eventually got around to testing some small connections with my DMM, running the test through the service menu, etc. All internal test fully pass and work. CF has been verified 4+ times, monitor test look great in every color, no burns, no fades, full saturation.

There is one really weird thing that happens sometimes, and only within the Service menu:
Sometimes when in the service menu, the screen gets riddled with pure green lines, and it gets pretty crazy before eventually settling again. It first happened when I was going through monitor test, and now I notice it happens if you just idle in the service menu for a bit.
It has not happened in game though, and I know the monitor is good because it has ran through all the test before 100% like mentioned. Also any actual "Cutscenes" like the intros to levels, play flawlessly, no glitches at all, and some of the characters in the select screen even have no glitches on their icons as well, certain menus in the attract mode also work 100%, while others suffer from the screen glitches.

The monitor was fully recapped and worked on like the previous owner stated and has the sticker from the repair shop showing it was recapped in 2020. So with everything working except for this glitchy screen, I check in with a local guy who is the only person in my area that works on arcades. He suggested to look at the PSU specifically.
At first I could not get a stable good reading of 5v from the red line from the PSU, the watchdog activated on reboot and I was told that could be directly related to a bad PSU. So I bought a new one, and had to rewire the 3 pin Molex connection because the newer M connector did not match the older F connector. This new PSU is reading great from the red which should be 5V, but the White line is supposed to be 12 V and I can only get around 10ish without compromising the other lines. As I said, I don't have much experience in this yet so forgive me for sounding dumb. At this point I'm just lost for where to go next. I already have a decent chunk of change invested in all this, and don't want to give up yet. To make things even more sucky, the awesome guy who was helping me problem solve had all his possessions and his truck stolen right after I acquired the game, so he's unfortunately out of business for the time being. He suggested I come here as the last resort before giving in. He said it likely has something to do with the actual PCB or some jamma connection issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm gonna attach a bunch of pictures of everything so far that I have. I just want to play this game without fear of hurting it more lol.

I have a video of it all in action here
