Gauntlet Legends Glitchy Screen Major Issue. Never seen Issue Reported so far.

Today is the day. Got the new voodoo 2 card (big thanks to john2654). Went ahead and swapped out the old for the new, annnnnddd...

It works!! Gauntlet Dark Legacy is fixed and now FULLY playable.

Thanks to everyone here for the help. I do have one thing I'm noticing now though, and I'm sure it's nothing major but still wanna be cautious. There is still a green line in the side of the screen on certain screens (mainly attract mode) and the screen is also terribly blurry now in some parts where it wasn't that blurry for the broken video card. Any idea where to look into for that? Thanks y'all I'm super happy already even though there still might be a little more to get done.

Looks like you need to adjust the contrast and/or flyback
Could give that a shot, but what I'm not understanding is why is this still happening? As far as I'm aware this was a problem with the last card, and if you check my 1st video I posted, you can see that the green lines aren't present on the test screen at first, it eventually did and got bad, but only had those graphical glitches at first. I guess I'm just trying to understand why a new card would need to have adjustments compared to the old one? Even though it was very buggy with the previous card, if was still very readable in most parts and not blurry.

Your problem is probably with your monitor, not the board set.
Some of your pictures, it looks like red is bleeding.

Any tips on where to go from here? Is it something I can fix or better to just look for a replacement for now?
I know the card is solid as proven in the 2nd video, but want to get this to 100% any way possible.

I own a few CRT's and am vaguely familiar with the re-capping process, but have never actually worked on one yet.

I am legitimately going to be sick. I turned the machine back on to look at the contrast adjustments and now it's happening again. I took everything out, reseated it all neatly and still the same thing. Why is this happening I am so defeated right now.

So feeling defeated I started looking up anything related to this issue, heard some people talk about their green gun going out or the neck tube going bad. Looked up the manual for a k7500 and found that there's a green and red drive pot. After some fiddling around with the green drive and monitor brightness, we are back up and running! I am noticing some weirdness in some areas (seems like white and blue are heavy now) and am afraid to touch anything else because I want to leave well enough alone. In the color bars test, I noticed the white and blue are hanging off the right side now? Also can notice in some levels that the blue and white blend together more often, on the tshirt promotion screen you can't read the shirt where I'm pretty sure you could before. I'm not getting back there and adjusting anything else until I have more solid advice to go on, I just want to play it in the meantime lol.

Adjusted contrast and brightness a bit more and it's now all AMAZING looking. Can read the garm Tshirt on the promotion advertisment and everything. I'm so happy with it right now and don't want to mess with it any further lol.

Just catching up on this thread. If you notice the focus is drifting in the picture, it means that your flyback is bad.

If so, you can send it to Paul400 and others here to rebuild the chassis for you and it'll be good for many years that way. The flybacks went end of life but were recently re-introduced by APAR, so you'd definitely want to grab one while you can if yours turns out to be bad.

you're lucky it's a K7500 and not a Neotec 2701. cause I think those flybacks are unobtainium.

Just a little update, played for 4+ hours straight last night like a kid again, dialed in the brightness on the flyback first then the daughter board, got contrast, v position, etc all setup and it looks BEAUTIFUL. I notice if I turn the brightness to far up (which it was by default), then those green lines start to appear on the side of the screen. Definitely gonna look into a new flyback eventually and maybe look at the green pot as that seems to be what fixed it when I turned down the overdrive. I think the focus might need a bit more adjusting but, for now I'm just gonna enjoy one of my favorite games for a few months until I get the courage to start messing with it again when it's fully working lol. Thanks again everyone for all the help, and I hope this can help someone else in the future that has a haunted Gauntlet Legends.

That is normal.

Leave the flyback alone.

What do you recommend doing from here then? Something is going to need to be done to future proof this a little longer, even though I have the brightness turned pretty low on the flyback, you can still faintly see those 2 green vertical lines. Its not too dark to play currently, but I can tell it'll get there sooner than later with how much my friends and I will end up playing it. Somethings gotta be up with it, cause when those lines are strong the screen flickers like its going from dim to bright real quick. I can play it for now, but yeah somethings gonna need to be done so I can feel 100% about having it on for long sessions.

You can tune your picture to be its best if you invest in a test pattern generator. The one most people use here is the TPG and it's ~$90, IIRC.

If your focus is solid and not drifting, you don't have to do anything with your flyback right now. I'd be half-tempted to buy one while it's available and let it sit until you need it. The downside to that is if the new flyback is defective, and some of them are, then you'll think you'll have a replacement but it won't be there for you when you need it.

Will definitely pick one up in the next few weeks. Thank you. I just want to get this to a solid place and then never have to open it again lol.

Played it for a few more hours tonight. Here we go again. It was playing fine then just started doing it all over again....turned the green drive down and it helped a bit but not much, turning brightness pot on neck didn't help again. This game is possessed.

Flip the switch to go to standard resolution and hook up one of your other monitors temporarily to it and see if it still acts up. If you have a long enough video cable, you can keep the other monitor outside the game on the floor and not remove your K7500.

The problem may very well be with the monitor and not the game. That's your first order of business; isolate the problem to the monitor or the game boards.

Test pattern generator isn't gonna get me far if I cant get the screen to chill. The screen is just beyond it now at this point. I played it fine last night after some adjustments again and this morning when I turned it on it went immediately bad. With the green lines again, ended up zeroing out green and although the game doesn't have green, the screen is still riddled with the lines. I don't have much experience in monitors or the boards yet, but I feel like this HAS to be something to do with how much green is being sent somewhere. Now my monitor is not only screwed with these lines right now, but from my dumb state of trying to fix it I also messed every color up and am gonna have a hell of a time fixing that as well. I'm about to get over my fear of touching this monitor pretty soon out of frustration and just start replacing everything.
